I really don't think it would be wise to have a puppy mate. I have often heard after their first heat, which is usually around 6 months. As an owner of a Pet Sitting Service, as well as breeder, and trainer, my recommendation would be to wait until the age of 1 to 2 years old. If any answers here are not helpful, check to see what your Vet says. Also, if you ARE NOT going to breed your pet, PLEASE consider spay/neuter your pet around 6 months old. This will alleviate many problems in the future, as well as unwanted puppies. Hope this was of some help.

Well, since you said puppy, that should be enough to know she's too young. However, dogs can have their first heat as early as six months (younger is very very rare) and mate then although surviving the pregnancy is unlikely, especially if it is a big litter. If you mean when can they safey mate, after the age of two (giant breeds should wait until closer to three) and definitely after the dog has had health tests done. The dog should have a title (conformation, agility, flyball, SOMETHING) or be an actual working dog (working livestock, working service dog, out in the field hunting) that is GOOD at working. Working dogs and dogs with performance titles should meet the breed standard.

Breeding befor 1 and a half years is very bad for the dog. if you want to kill your dog (and the puppies) breed before that! The reccomended age for breeding is no earlier than 2 years and no later than about 6/7 or it will put too much stress on the dog. Remember that puppies are not FULLY mature until they are 1 and a half, and birthing complications have a much higher chance if you breed whilst they are immature. The birthing problems can kill the b**** and the pups. She may need to have a caeserean section, which may not be covered in your pet insurance (if you have it).
Dont breed!!!

First you should consider your reasons for breeding her. If it is for profit you should reconsider. the cost of raising a litter of puppies in an ethical way will cost a lot of money, time, and possible your dog. Secondly is your dog breeding quality? Have you had judges or experienced ethical breeders examine her and confirm that she is breeding quality dog.The only reason any one should breed is to preserve and perfect the breed. Now to answer your question large breeds should not be bred before 2 years. Small breeds after 1 1/2 years.Toy breeds 1 year. It depends on the breed and dog.

Dogs don't fully develop, until they are at least 2 years old, so it's much healthier for the dog, if you wait until they are 2 years old. Breeding is a very big responsibility, and is very expensive. I would seriously consider, leaving the breeding to professional breeders. There is a lot you need to know about breeding, and what's involved, before you even consider it.

Depends on the breed. Small breeds mature sooner than large breed dogs. Small breeds at 1yr. to 1 1/2. Large breed 2 years old.

Well the vets always spay them at 6 months old so I assume that if you leave it any later you could run the risk of having a litter of unwanted puppies.

Puppies usually come into heat about 6 months old. I
think that it is better to wait until they are atleast a year old
before breeding. If you don't, you have puppies raising puppies.

they can mate at 6 months but are not mature enough to be good at rearing pups. also at that young age a lot of health problems occur... if want to breed to sell the pups wait at least a year but preferably two. if not get her spayed..too many animals are euthanized due to overpopulation

You should usually skip the first heat they go through, the second time they go in heat they are about a year or a little older, and mature physically enough to breed.
