I am a beauty consultant with Mary Kay...I do hear a lot of flack about MK being expensive, etc. Mary Kay has been the #1 brand for 13 consecutive years even over the higher priced brands. My question is, Do you really try it and think it is too expensive, or you just take other peoples word for it? I thought it was expensive until I tried it...it really lasts a long time and it is much cheaper than mall brands, like estee lauder, etc...What is your opinion?

I really hate that some of you had bad experiences with the company..I was not lured into this and my director is a big help. I was not left in the dark...Also, for the man answerer..This is a real job and I also work another real job as a paralegal...I was not asking for your opinion, just ladies opinions...Thanks ladies!

Continue to be passionate about your products and educate people on the proper uses of skin care. As long as you believe in them and your company, that's all that you need, regardless of their price. Good luck!

I wonder if it is the perception of being expensive since women may buy many products at once to get started. They really are no more expensive than many department stores or even oil or olay or loreal higher end stuff. But if someone is at wal mart and tosses a $20 moisturizer in their basket it just doesn't seem the same as if they buy $50 worth of MK at a party. MK is a good product and I have personally seen the difference in my skin and friends skin when it is used daily. Maybe try doing a price comparison chart with popluar brands. I think I've seen one before. Check on unitnet.com. That way customers see it side by side and it the realty vs. perception.

I just started using some of the Mary Kay products and the quality is dept. store but the prices are the same as what I bought at Walmart (Which did not work for me at all.) I used to think negative about Mary Kay but I really love it now that I have tried it...and I am not into wearing anything that looks madeup (natural look only).
Plus Mary Kay is a guarenteed product! They will work with you and help you choose the right product. KEY IS TO HAVE THE RIGHT CONSULTANT!

if people find it to much $$ then give then a discount i give every single person a $10 gift cert. just for trying it out and a $20 for the Basie skins set if they bring 2 or more friends we take a very large cut and you will find the people will not find it cost to much $$ this way. it really works for me and my customer will not look at another consulted. try it, it will put an end to the money problem .

I personally like it. I don't think I need all the stuff that they sell...like the face cream for the morning and then the night cream...I am happy with the cleanser and the intense moisturizing cream for my face...and as far as hand lotions go for extremely dry skin...the Extra Emollient Night Cream, can not be beat...it works wonders. I also like the lip sticks a lot, they last a long time, but I do find some of the eye shadows do not stay on as long as I would like. All in all tho, I think Mary Kay is a good product and I have been using it for over 20 years!
Also, I love their shower gels...they smell sooooo good.

I used to be a Mary Kay consultant as well. I think the products are fine (though not as good as L'ancome or Prescriptives) and priced OK, but I won't use them anymore based on my experience with the company.
When I became a consultant I lived in a town of about 5,000 people. I was a young housewife and was lured into joining the company by a group of predatory consultants. I was convinced that I could not succeed without taking out a bank loan to purchase an inventory. Then I was basically left on my own to figure it all out.
Little did I know, there were already more than 50 consultants in this town. That works out to 1 for every 100 people - and when you figure that at least half of those people were male, and a good chunk of the population were children, that didn't leave many customers. I ended up having to sell my stock back to Mary Kay at a loss.
So, though the product line is decent and not terribly overpriced, I'll never use Mary Kay cosmetics again.

I used Mary Kay for about 5 years and enjoyed using it. The TimeWise skin line products were my favorites. And they lasted for a good amount of time. Honestly, I was not a fan of the prices. But at the time the consultant was a family friend and the price did not seem to matter because of the personal relationship. However, I am a person who likes to be given up to date information and products and I sometimes felt my consultant was not trained in all the up to date products. And I feel Mary Kay does not always have their products available. A lot of the items I wanted were back-ordered ect. Make-up from counters are always accessible and the consultants are eager to help you feel your best. Mary Kay is a good line for older women, but I don't think it is worth the money when it does appear to be professional. Sorry.

I have been using Mary Kay for over 11 years now, and in NO way is it more expensive than department store brands! If you have women who are used to shopping at Walgreen's for their skin care and makeup, then maybe they'll think it's more expensive. But for others who are used to spending real money on quality brands, Mary Kay is a fantastic bargain. By the way, I am almost 50 and I started using Mary Kay's Even Complexion Essence, and have been CARDED since I started using that and the microdermabrasion set. Love it!!!

If you regularly buy from a department store, then yes, it is comparable or cheaper. If you regularly buy from the drugstore, then it is WAY expensive. Also, keep in mind that you are not paying full price!
I was a consultant, I could not get any of my friends to buy it because it was too expensive compared to what they were already using.
As far as the best selling brand for 13 years... keep in mind, this is the amount that he company sells to consultants, not the amount that is bought by consumers. Many consultants buy large inventory to get to the next prize level, or because they are just starting out, and those products never actually get sold to consumers.

I, too, was a MK consultant for a short time. I really love their product, but it is expensive compared to drugstore brands. I have used Timewise for the last 4 years, and really liked it. I ran out recenlty though, and have been using Dove beauty bar, and it works just as well, and It's waaay cheaper! So I will probably go to that. As for the makeup, the foundation is the best I've ever used. It has great coverage, and I love the way it makes my skin look. And you can get it pretty cheap on ebay! Yea, I know, MK consultants hate that, but Im on a budget!
