My mother's dog has been sick since sunday- vomiting, won't eat, when he drinks, he throws it all up and he is acting very strange. I know so far only wet food is being recalled, but he eats Wegman's Bruiser dog food, (dry) which is on the list, but only for wet. Does anyone else out there have a dog that eats dry food and is having similar problems?? He is in the animal hospital now being treated for dehydration and they are doing blood tests on him. Please help!! We have the current phone # and info but it's just for wet so far.

The vet is doing tests, and he has renal kidney disease. He is a 4 year old shepherd/lab mix and he had no problems whatsoever up until a few days ago. He is staying in the hospital through thursday, they need to do more tests. Still, could it be the food??

Diagnosis so far- The dog has Addison's disease. I just read a resolved question on yahoo of the same thing- a dog who ate dry food of one of the recalled (wet)brands. The vet says he has only seen 1 other case of the disease in the 10 years he has been practicing. Thank you so much for your answers, PLEASE let me know if there are other dogs out there suddenly getting sick from dry food!!! Dog still won't eat or drink- he is in and out of the vet's.

You can also check IAMS own site:
www.iams.com
Please do your research on dog food over the internet. The Whole Dog Food Journal takes no advertising from manufactures and publishes a yearly guide to the most nutritional pet food made every year. READ THE LABEL; UNDERSTAND the ingredients and NOT the hype on the package. You can buy holistic natural dog food with high quality lamb or beef, whole grains that are all HUMANE GRADE. Azmira food is CLINICALLY proven healthy food for less then $.68 for a 50 Pd dog. Ignorance is the only reason someone would feed their dog Beneful at $.87. No matter what the company make sure it is humane grade!!! Surely no one who loves their dog would knowingly feed it dead, disease, disabled and/or dying sick animals shot full of antibiotics, growth hormones and chemicals regardless if their vet tells them its a "good food" or they saw a commercial that told them it was good for their pet. Keep in mind Vets not only make good commissions off the food the sell they also get rewards, gifts and bonuses for sales. Vets in general do NOT have nutritional education and sadly "prescribe" pet food from these same companies as part of their earnings daily.

I would never consider feeding any of my pets ANY of the poor quality foods that Menu Foods makes. Take a look at the LONG list of company's that they sell their food to for these same companies to stick their labels on the can, goes to show doesn't matter what names on the label it's all the same in the can. Labels from Iams, Eukanbu, Nutro and many other cheap dog food sellers now are having their dog food recalled as it has been KILLING our pets. Do you have any idea how many pets must have died BEFORE this big of a recall was made? How many more companies and or labels will be added to the recall list before this is all done with? The root cause has of yet to be identified so I would throw out EVERYTHING by all these companies', the risk is not worth it to me, is it to you and your pets?

Please take your pets health into your own hands. They are what they eat and dry dead poor grade kibble or soft food is the root cause of most allergies, hotspots, ear infections and of cancer. Most Vets’ DO NOT STUDY nutrition any more then most doctor's do. SEE the label is just that, what is inside is preservatives, fillers, artificial colors and the garbage from the human food industry packaged all pretty for you to believe you are feeding your dog something good.

Google "dog food the 4 D's" and read away. Search Amazon for Holistic pet books and see what ALL the natural vet's that study nutrition recommends. Make a wise healthy decision for your best friends. GET YOUR HANDS ON THE 2006 AWARD WINNING Book "Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care" (http://www.amazon.com/scared-poopless-st...
Care/dp/0977126501) This book is a pure joy to read as it is written from the dogs prospective and educates you on what choices you really have in regards to everything from medical types of vets, alternative care, vaccines or titers to foods.

While you’re at it study up on vaccines too. I will leave you with a scary thought. The EXACT same amount of vaccine for a 5 Pd Maltese is given to a 150 Pd Iris Wolf Hound! WHY?

Choose for your pet wisely for they are unable to choose for themselves. If they could I don't believe they would pick dead granola every meal for the rest of their lives even if it was humane grade. Give them real food full of enzymes, vitamins, natural probotics and life giving energy

They say the average age of diagnosed addison's dog is 4.5 years old addisons is more common in female dogs than males. If treated they can live long and healthy lives. They say my dog has addsions 3-4-07 no health problems prior she is 7 to 9 yrs old eats nutro lamb and rice or nutro max chicken I am having a hard time believing them she on the meds now but she is still acting off, still really thirsty she goes crazy when she smells real meat. my vet says its probably just the predisone. I have read : people telling people not to let them put your dog on pred. My dog has had 2 ACTH test 1st one came back as a maybe second one came back as yes.??? I have been trying to get a hold of a holistic vet for opinions but no one has answered yet. I have read that the adrenal gland can malfunction if exposed to toxic micro-organisms which is found in dry dog foods as well as a number of other vial ingredients and junk & stuff that just dose no belong.

Dr. Rhonda Henry supports an herbal remedies support for the adrenal gland called Adreno Plus. It is for people but so is florinef. She dose not mention anything about addisons disease. But Its all about adrenal glands

Also look into herbs for adrenal support

My 2 yr old Dachsund started throwing up last night - ALOT! I have never seen him so ill before. It is not from eating grass either!!!! He will not touch any food, drinks lots of water, and seems lethargic, muscles seem stiff too, acting really mopey. I called the Vet and they are only doing blood tests on animals who ate the wet food!!! He has recently eaten the IAMS and NUTRO dry dog food........I am taking him to the vet anyways to get blood testing done. He was perfectly healthy up until yesterday. They say rat poison was found in the wheat (filler). I would not be surprised if the dry food gets pulled from all shelves too. The Vet said the bext food to feed your pet right now is PURINA and SCIENCE DIET......both large companies.

your vet almost certainly knows of the food recall. If you have some of the dry food left he may be able to test it for toxins.

You can certainly report the problem to the pet food site. They are almost certainly checking all food that uses a common ingredient.

Good luck with your dog.

I honestly wouldn't be at all surprised if dry food was soon added to the list. Pet food companies often times use some pretty poor ingredients in pet foods, for both dry and wet foods.

I hope your dog gets well.

We have a puppy (labradoodle) who got sick with the same symptoms. He was eating dry food, first from Purina One then IAMS when he stopped eating. He kept getting worse, so I looked up recipes on the Internet to make dog food with a food processor. We switched the puppy to this the day after the news broke last Sunday. Three days later the diarrhea and vomiting is done. He is again wolfing his food down and no longer lethargic. I am thankful I changed. DRY FOOD IS DEFINITELY INVOLVED!

Wegman's is on the cat food list that has been recalled but the wegman's is not on the dog food list. Some sites for the dog food and cat food have a place where you can email them and ask questions about there dog food or even cat food. I have the lists for both cat food and dog food and I did not see the wegman's on the list. Go on there web site to see if you can email them to find out.

this actually sounds like parvo to me.

Parvo virus is a viral disease of dogs. It affects puppies much more frequently than it affects adult dogs. The virus likes to grow in rapidly dividing cells. The intestinal lining has the biggest concentration of rapidly dividing cells in a puppy's body. The virus attacks and kills these cells. It initially causes weakness, depression, and lethargy. After a few days to weeks, it causes vomiting and lack of appetite. The dogs develop a very high fever. Very severe diarrhea ensues, gray in color, often with blood and tissue. Because of the vomiting and diarrhea, the dogs become very weak and dehydrated. Puppies and dogs less than two years old, may also suffer from heart disease caused by the virus, causing sudden death.

This is very serious. I am glad you are having tests done on your moms dog. Best of luck. I am also questioning it just being the wet food because my own dog has been ill recently.

I have just read on another forum (Timebomb2000) that they have found rat poson in Wheat imported from China and being used in our pet food.

Call your vet straight away and let him know, then they'll know how to treat your dog

From everything I"ve heard, it's only the wet food, so apparently there's something else wrong with your mom's dog. Luckily, he's at the vet, which is the best place to be. I hope they can figure out what's wrong with him.
