SO DO I! but like you, i decided some time back that i was eating way too much bread. i couldn't break the cycle, so instead i changed it.
i still eat bread but i eat different breads. i have stopped eating white bread totally. i really like orowheats breads. they have a number of different breads and they are all great! whole wheat, whole grain, nut and oat, etc.
they are a hearter bread so it doesn't take nearly as muc hto satisfy that craving which means i don't eat nearly as much.
give them a try, i think you'll enjoy them!
i have since branched out in my experiments and have bought a bread machine. love it. i can make all different breads and now i know exactly what is going into them, because i'm making them. the machines are reasonably priced and well worth the money and the few minutes it takes to get bread baking.
giving up white bread has made a big difference in how i am feeling......so give it a try!
good luck and let us know how you do!

First of all, you have to decide if you really are eating too much. Bread and grains are good for you - you're supposed to have 6 servings a day (and one or two over won't hurt). But if you want to lose weight you might want to lay off the carbs. Find other foods that you equally enjoy and that are more healthy. It's good to get some variety in your diet - try fresh fruit. And you can't eat bread if you don't have it around - try buying less or slowly eating a little less each day; that's how you shake any addiction. Of all the things to be addicted to (chocolate, coffee, ice cream), bread really isn't the worst. Also, you really shouldn't have a natural withdrawl feeling if you eat other carbs to supplement the ones you usually get from bread...like cereal or pasta. Good luck!

I'm in love with bread too!!! I eat it constantly--mostly the whole wheat variety--in the form of sliced bread, pastries and wheat based cereals. My handle could just as well be "breadjunkie" instead of "sciencejunkie!"
However, I also frequently suffer from something known as "insulin resistance", also called "Syndrome X", which involves feeling sluggish a lot, and I have little doubt that my addiction to breads and other carbohydrates have a lot to do with it.
I question the poster who says bread is essential to a healthy diet. I think it really depends on your body metabolism. There is a growing body of nutritional information suggesting that consuming grains is not as good for us as we've been led to believe.
You can read about these ideas at the following links:

I think you should try other food. Bread is not the only food out there to love.

Eat it in small portions. Limit yourself no more than two slices a day or whatever works for you. If your having a sandwhich or burger only eat one peice of bread and not both.
