The Canon PowerShot A550 Digital Camera is a nice very inexpensive camera, If you want it I saw it at Ritz Camera, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics/RitzCamera.com-Priority-Codes/index.html for a discount

Hmm start with something practical, easy to use and with not so many features that you will probably never use....id recommend a Sony .....its easy to use and a good camera..Olympus is also a good camera. Kodak and Fuji hmmm some of my friends have those and dont recommend them.Cheper but not as good.

I use an Olympus 5 mp, 3x zoom. I would go to a Best Buy or Circut City to look. Wouldn't waste my time at Wal Mart as previously suggested.

The Kodak Easyshare series is great. I bought a Fuji Finepix initially, but returned it because it was too difficult.
The Easyshare is so simple, I have yet to look at the instructions.
Hope this helped!!

I have one called Casio Exilim ex-z75. Its very sleek and about 1cm thin which makes it easy to cary around and its also stainless steel so it doesnt get scratched. its very strait forward, it does pictures and video. i'm definately not a camera genius and this has worked wonders for me! I love it.

Howzit!!
If you really mean "BASIC" get a mobile with atleast 3megapixels.
But if you mean "basic" then get yourselft anything with a good name (not mahindra, chang ying or anything in this line) and with alteast 5megapixels and 3x zoom.
Atleast when you upgrade to my standard of (photography digi-cameras) you'll be able to sell it for a good value...
Good luck.
