You may need to crate-train your puppy.
And make sure to walk him before you go.
Good luck.

See you have to remember a pup is like a baby. You MUST watch over him/her at all times. So if you leave, make sure that the pup is in a small area with newspaper in it. Never leave him/her somewhere in the open without your supervision. This is the best way but it takes patience. When the pup goes in the right place, praise him even with a treat. Praise the hell out of the pup. But if he goes where he/she is not suppose to, DONT yell, or say no. This will confuse the pup and think he/she can't go IN FRONT of you. Instead, quickly pick up the pup and put him in the place he/she is suppose to go and with a firm voice say "poopoo! Poopoo here." It takes patience and commitment. It took me almost 8 months to train my dog. Also, a pup's bladder is small so you must take him for a walk frequently. How do you know when to take him out? Usually the time of his bladder goes to how many months he or she is. Lets say the pup is 6 months right. The pup's bladder can handle holding up to about 4 or 5 hours. If he's 8 months, he can go about 6 or 7 hours. Another thing that helps is after the pup eats, take him out for a walk. After the pup wakes up from a nap, take him or her out again. Good luck. One more thing how long it'll take to train your pup also has a lot to do with breed it is. A chihuahua may be more stubborn than to a German Shephard.

I had a doggy play pen for my pup for when I was doing something and couldn't keep an eye on him. Every time I put him in there he would poop. So then I would take him out and clean it up. Finally I noticed that he would poop and then sit there and smile at me, expecting to be picked up and let out. So I would start cleaning it up and ignore him. He finally stopped. You're pup sounds like it is doing it because it's upset you're gone. Don't pay attention to it when you come back and find the poop, just clean it up and ignore the pup. Also, crate training works wonders with the house training.

Make sure he's properly house trained, take him out to the loo before you go out. He may be doing it through stress, which means he can't tolerate being left alone, and needs to learn how to cope. You need a treatment for seperation anxiety to fix it, you can get one from the APBC.
Reward him for using his toiulet spot and ignore mistakes anywhere else. Never punish him for it, and never look angry when you get home - it will increase his anxiety and make him chew stuff up as well when you go out.
The treatment involves ignoring him for short periods while you're at home, teaching him to settle in his bed with a chew while you leave him for a minute, and repeatedly pretending to leave the house to get him used to it without panicking.

DON'T WORRY!
It took us quite a while to house train our puppy, and he is fine now. Just make sure that you let him out just before you go out, and when you get back in. He might not be able to hold it and if he realises that you are going to let him out as soon as you get in he might hold it for longer.
Another thing to try is when you are in shut him in the kitchen or another room on his own for a few minutes every day to get him used to being on his own with the safety of him being able to hear you.
Good luck!

You need to put him on a feeding/watering schedule. I feed my 2 dogs twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. They always go pee in the afternoon and poop at night. They won't poop or pee in the house if they don't need to go.

He might be suffering from separation anxiety. Get your vet to refer you to a behaviourist who will be able to help you solve this.
