I let it get out of hand before I rang the police...by that stage it was excrutiatingly frightening....my family were scared for my life.
I would say if someone is obsessed with you and you have told them that their attention is completely unwanted then do not hesitate in going and talking to your local police community officer...take evidence to back up your claims if you have them.

Boots has given some great pointers and friends can be very good buffers to hide behind but make sure you don't let that go on to long because friends will only take so much before they themselves feel it's beyond their control.

Also Never Never Never throw letters, parcels, gifts or delete text messages keep everything for at least ten years after the obsession has ended because these people have a tendancy to get re-infaturated with the same person after a few years.

Hmmm...not sure how you keep a text for ten years...lol...but definately for as long as possible.

Good Luck!

seriously obsessed people rarely go away the first time they are told to leave you alone.
1. tell them very firmly
2. DO NOT take calls from them or return calls ( any attention is complimentaty to their mind )
3. do not try and be friends- cut all ties
4. call police and get a restraining order if neccessary
5. inform your friends so they can help you avoid this person and also so they do not give this person info about you ( ie answer an innocent question with too much info )
6. If at all possible have a third party talk with them and see if they can be made ti understand that you are off limits ( sometimes this does actually help and sometimes it makes them more sneaky )

I'm not sure if your feel this is an annoyance to you or if you are afraid.
If you are just annoyed and can't stand this person, do all you can to show that you are not interested. Do not talk, make eye contact, smile, or even tell him to leave you alone after the first time since this leaves things open to discussion. Do not go anywhere he is, including clubs or parties, even if your friends go there (at least for a while). Hang up the phone if he calls, and do not ever return his calls. If he is a starer, pick your nose grossly (I'm not kidding, this works).
If it is more serious than this, then you need to tell the authorities.
**Incidentally, I'm assuming it's a male who's obsessing, but the same goes for a female.

Oh no.... how could you!

I'm obsessed with you, you are that sugar in my coffee. Ok, enough with the rubbish, stop beating around the bush and tell it like it is, stop wasting the poor guy's time.

You need to tell him so he can move on, he's probable a grown man and can deal with it like the rest of us...

Believe me it worx, its part of growing up and it has to happen to someone in life alright...

Good luck!

unless the obsessive person has a mental problem, telling them to back off will hurt their ego....alot. now if your screwed and they have problems, use force, before it becomes worse.

Just tell them--politely--to BACK OFF!!! I know it sounds hard, but you are not doing the person or yourself a favour by letting them hang to you!

obviously avoiding them wont work so i would try letting them see you with someone else. (then again that might make them want you more knowing that someone else wants you) Or just be real with them and let them know politely that you dont like them and you wont never like them, and that you all can be friends but nothing more

Restraining order, and after a few times in jail, it will stop.
