Those who misquote stats are destined to die by them. :)

The actual stats were published in the March 18 issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health, which article I cannot find on line. But the point was about great STD infection among pledgers because they lacked basic condom-use knowledge. The actual stat was: "Because most pledgers eventually become sexually active (88% of the pledgers), lower rates of condom use increases their STD risk."

What surprises me is that 12% do not go one to become sexually active.

In any event, you might want to correct yourself.

No, I didn't think you did want to correct yourself.

Not sure why you say they are religious nut jobs. Although they take a pledge it doesn't change the fact that they're teenagers, often doing what teenagers do, which included being sexually active (at least experimenting). To me it sounds like they are normal, not nut jobs. Just because someone ultimately wants and believes in acting a certain way doesn't mean they will always do so, which I think is the case with most human beings.

At least they tried. If the boys were also included in those pledge gatherings, maybe the percentage of failure will decline. It always takes two to tango. Whoever have thought of that program must not forget this, "Any error that is committed by two people must also take two people to correct it. Therefore any error that is normally experienced by two people must be prevented by the same two people."
A pledge of two loving teenagers may even be greatly followed than the pledge of a daughter to her father.

Somehow this does not surprise me given the pressure that today's teens are under. We had problems back in 197* but not like today's kids. It is the intent with which they take the pledge. Noone is perfect but I'm sure there are many who defy your stats and keep the pledge honestly.

The majority of this problem is because of how we raise our kids these days. We let them look at pornography, rated R movies, listen to explicit music. We are not taking enough time in our busy lives to teach our children correct principles and morals to live by.

Nope, didn't know that!
What's the big deal with doing the horizontal polka before marriage anyway? It's more effective to teach teens about condoms than to forbid dating/sex entirely. The forbidden fruit is always sweeter...

that whole premarital sex thing worked a lot better in biblical times when people got married much younger. didn't Joseph supposedly wed Mary when she was 14. i could be abstinent until 14 no problem.

It's really easy to pledge, but how many of them actually follow through with it?

Prove it! At least some have tried to do what is right. What about you? Sounds like your are actually the nut job. Think about it.

Not surprised in the least. Abstinance programs don't work, but they DO do a very good job of spreading STDs, since they spend all their time saying 'don't have sex' instead of 'here's how you can protect yourself'.
