A US general today said Iraqi insurgents used children in a suicide attack this weekend, raising worries that the insurgency has adopted a new tactic to get through security checkpoints with bombs.

Major General Michael Barbero, deputy director for regional operations in the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, said adults in a vehicle with two children in the backseat were allowed through a Baghdad checkpoint. The adults then abandoned the vehicle and detonated it with the children still inside, he said.

"Children in the backseat lower suspicion, we let it move through," he said. "They parked the vehicle, the adults run out and detonate it with the children in the back."

"The brutality and ruthless nature of this enemy hasn't changed," Gen Barbero said.

The general called that incident a new tactic, but noted US forces had only seen one such occurrence involving children

If you are not willing to support the effort to eliminate it would that be guilt by omission? Maybe we should just leave so we don't have to hear about it. If we don't read about it or see it on the news it didn't happen right? This is why we are there now, not wmd, not oil, to what we can stop these atrocities.

Liberals do not support that! This shows no support that liberals support this! We only have a different view of how these people should be dealt with not that people should be able to do these things. There are liberals in the military as well that are dealing with this stuff first hand, republicans are not the only ones dealing with or opposed to terrorism. All Americans are and instead of pointing ignorant fingers at each other saying 'you support this' we should be worried about supporting the people that everyday have to watch those children get blown to bits. Next time you want to make accusations do your homework and find out what the people you are accusing actually believe!

I don't know anyone that would be in support of such behavior.

These bombers no doubt believe they are sacrificing their children for the sake of their cause and believe that they will see their children again in heaven.

Then there is the idea that at this point in the war, caring for your children can seem like a horrible burden. The fear of having them killed is unbearable, but... one can psychologically feel empowered by determining themselves to OFFER UP their children for the cause.

War is ugly and there is no way of knowing what is really going through a person's or group of people's heads. This is why we shouldn't have started this thing without a clear plan.

I'm no one and I knew we were never going to be able to end this thing over night. We jumped smack dab in the middle of a religious war that has been going on since the days of Abraham, Ishmael and Issac.

This ain't going to be over 'til God says its over.

It's my Jesus day to say nice things and to confront differing opinions with tolerance. I'm just not sure how to go about doing that. What you've written is clearly incendiary, which is alright. I am glad that you don't actually believe that liberals would support insurgents who harm civilians and military personnel. Anyway, nice try.

Yes this sounds like the exact sort of things liberals support. Blowing up babies I believe is right behind workers rights and free speech. @ss

Liberals do not support that. They don't hate America, they don't hate the troops and they don't want to take your guns away. You need to back away from the peace pipe my friend.
