You didn't indicate any price range. But, Pioneer is usually your best bet on a CD/MP3 player. They provide performance, price, and reliability. If you are not planning on upgrading to an external amplifier in the future, by all means get the extra wattage from the internal amplifier. The wattage ratings are not always correct, but they do porduce more power. Look for one that says it can be used for a subwoofer.

I would recommend the Alpine. Reasons: you can hook up an MP3 player or IPOD (with direct IPOD control), they are of real high quality and Alpine is just pimp!
Higher wattage is not only for the bass thumpers, but it helps with clarity and crispness of sound if you have you speakers running through an amp. I would recommend a 4 channel amp with 4 speakers that have a tweeter on top of the full range speaker to separate your highs and lows and mids too. You might be able to get away with good sound without having to sacrifice trunk space for subs.

Go to Circuit City/Best buy and look around at the different hu's. I personaly have the new Pioneer 6900ub and its really cool. It has a usb cable, seven band eq, lpf for the sub out, hpf for the front and rear outs and it looks awesome. Don't get me wrong alpines are nice but you dont really get much for the money except the name on the lower end models. I bought an Alpine 9856 and it didn't even have a HPF. Alpines higher end stuff is really good though so if you are on a budget look at Pioneer,Clarion, or JVC.

get a BMW they have HD Radio built in and that's better than an mp3 player like 2 times as many channels, tons of songs, no fees after you have the radio (costs around $150 at a store)
