If you have an onion and you only need a little at a time, what is the best way to use and preserve it so it lasts as long as possible and you avoid wasting any of it?

Onions last pretty long in the fridge. I always have leftover onion. What I do is cut off what i need and leave the bulb in tact with the rest. Store in a ziplock bag in your crisper drawer. If you find it seems to be a little wilty looking peel off some of the outer layers or cut off the ends. I just did it last night!!!
