I need to find a good English or Irish pub to bring two Englishmen to. Some place authentic (not touristy) with a wide selection of beer and a soccer game in the background would be a big plus.

You might try Swift on East 4th Street in Manhattan.

They have a pretty extensive beer menu, and decent pub grub.

As far as a Football game going on, that I can't promise. Although there might be one in one of the other pubs in the group.

You see, Swift is part of a trio, with Ulysses, and Puck being the other two. It is also probably the only chain of pubs that has free shuttle service from one bar to the other.

No, no, no, no...........I have taken many English and Irish people out and would not take them to many "Irish" pubs here. I would take them to a great American place like McSorley's on 15th East 7th street. They can go to really authentic English and Irish pubs whenever they want at home. Would you go to London and hang out at an American bar?!?

On the west side go to Mercury Bar, 9th Ave and 46th St. Huge choice of beer and many wide screens TV's.

There a re a bunch to choose from but no matter what they will hate them for two reasons.
1. The beer is watered down for "safety reasons"
2. There is no smoking for "safety reasons"

They are MUCH more free in the UK. You're better of taking them to Atlantic City where they can still smoke.
