I was raised Catholic, but rejected it at all costs since my mother forced me to go to church and as a youth, I always did the opposite of whatever she tried to get me to do. Now I'm not sure what I am...
I strongly believe in the interconnectedness of the world. I don't believe in reincarnation, but believe when we die, part of us remains connected to the Earthly world, but the rest of our spirit rejoins with God (since we came from Him).
I believe that Jesus was an inspirational man. Perhaps it was God's chance to show good to a world of chaos. I believe saints are inspirational people too. Praying is meditation. I don't believe that you can pray to "make things happen." God doesn't interfere like that. Though I suppose there are miracles...
I don't believe in hell. I believe in purgatory because God is compassionate. I do believe in one God, a greater power above all. And though beliefs vary among altruistic religions, I believe we all believe in the same spirit of one God.

I want to make this clear -- some of the Catholics are getting rather defensive... I rejected Catholicism as a youth because of youthful rebellion. Those days are over as I have grown up and don't feel the need to reject any particular religion/spiritual belief at this point. In fact, I have often sang in the choir at the Catholic Church sponsored by the Jesuit University I attended for undergrad. Anyway, just wanted to clear up my opening statement.

I too was raised Catholic and forced to go to church (as well as Catholic school) and now am on the journey of discovering what I believe. I'm only 19 and still in the process of deciding what I do and do not believe and now (at this time) consider myself Agnostic.
Try this website, it is great. Go to www.beliefnet.com and take the Belief-O-Matic quiz. It asks about 20 questions regarding religious beliefs and then tells you what religion your beliefs match up with the most from a 100% match to even (I've seen) a 4% match. This quiz is a great starting tool to start researching the different religions with which your beliefs match.
Good luck!

You're human.
In the view of physical science, every observable phenomenon can be explained on the bases of the known laws of nature or laws yet to be discovered. If there is a phenomenon that we cannot understand or explain with our present state of knowledge, then we have to await future discoveries and developments. The fact that we do not understand an event or a phenomenon should drive us to seek an understanding of it. There are no mysteries in science; everything has a scientific explanation.

You're a Christian, you still believe in Jesus and believe in only one God. I think you're stuck between some Catholic teachings and other Christian denominations. I suggest you do some searching and visit other churches and read the bible to gain more insight.

You sound like an agnostic who has respect for other people. An agnostic is simply someone who refuses to commit to the belief or disbelief that any religion or god is real or true. They basicly try to stay neutral and it sounds like you are doing that since you wont commit to anything.

I would have to say that you are a little misguided at the moment, but you are searching. The Bible is full of God's truth. That is where you should turn if you are looking to please God, and not men and not necessarily yourself. Although pleasing God is most definitely beneficial to one's self. Learn what the Bible really teaches and you might be in for some very awesome surprises. Pray to God to guide you in the right direction and to lead you to the truth...that is his will, and he will help you. There are a lot of religions, but they do not all lead to the true God.
Matthew 7: 21 & 23: "21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."
1 John 4:1: "4 Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world."
John 17: 3: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
1 Timothy 2:3 & 4: This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth."

you are someone who has worked for what they believe - be proud of that. take little heed of those who are going to try to tell you that that you are lost. i only hope that people treat you with respect for the effort that you have put into figuring out what you believe - a lot of them do not. speak loud and speak often, fight against intolerance and beligerance. be a force of reconcilliation among poeple. keep questioning.
good luck.
