I need something very cheap to make, I know of "dirt desert", but I think others are planning it. Any ideas? (keep them simple as cheap as simple as you can.)

This one a recipe contest here at my office:

Birthday CakeI have made this cake probably 50 times in the past 30 years as a birthday cakefor my wife and kids.

10 oz pkg.of frozen raspberries (or strawberries)
Pint of vanilla ice cream
Angel food cake - store made kind
6 oz pkg.of raspberry (or strawberry) gelatin
Whipping cream
Fresh raspberries (or strawberries).

Dissolve the gelatin in boiling water, as noted on the package. Dissolve the frozen raspberries and the ice cream in the gelatin mixture. Cut up the cake (infairly large pieces) into the bottom of a cooking pan that has the circumference of a dinner plate. Pour the gelatin mixture into the pan so that it surrounds the cake pieces and begins saturating them. Put a plate upside down on the mixture and put the whole thing in the refrigerator to gel.

When the thing has jelled, put the pan in warm water to loosen the jelled creation. Flip upside down to extract from the pan. Coat with whipped cream (with red food coloring, if available). Arrange berries on top to show the age of the birthday boy or girl. There it is — real simple, but I have never met anyone who didn’t like it.
