The debate we're having involves two obvious religions..The Mormon Faith and Catholicism. Our disagreement centers around which of the two is currently the richest (monetarily) in the US today. If there's another that ranks up there with these we are unaware of it, but would like to know.

We are looking for any data available, from any source, as to which religion currently boasts the highest dollar amount, (including assets like property etc.),as of 2006.

If I choose your answer as the best...you are definitely going to heaven for helping.

Catholicism is the richest, but it is also the largest of the organized religions, per capita though it is the pourest, since on the average people give to the Church 2-5% of their monthly earnings each week, compared to other religions where 10% or greater is given on the basis of that week.
There you have it.
Specifics are hard to come by since the Church is so diverse, there are some smaller communities whos assests barely reach the bottom of the poverty level, and some like the Arch Diocese of Chicago that has 2.5 billion dollars in assests alone.

Catholics are certainly up there. Southern Baptists have a retirement fund that was upwards of $12B in the early 90s...who knows what it's worth today.

Well since the Mormons stopped killing and robbing western bound settlers on wagon trains awhile back-it's got to be the Catholics-look into the Catholic hospitals for starters

Money will never make you happy. the following verse states that:
Proverbs 11:4 When God is angry, money won't help you. Obeying God is the only way to be saved from death.
Another verse:
Ecclesiastes 5:11 The more you have, the more everyone expects from you. Your money won't do you any good--others will just spend it for you.

So Jesus is not looking for our money- He is looking for us to have faith in Him and trust Him.

I dn't believe there's any way you are going to learn what the LDS church actually holds.

I do know that, whenever a new chapel or temple is built, it is ttally paidfor as soon as that first shovel of earth is turned.

I think the real question should be "How can the religions with all the vast amounts of wealth they possess believe they are doing Gods work when children are starving to death?".

Almost certainly Episcopalian or Presbyterian. Well they were a few decades ago anyway.

Edit: I thought you were referring to the average wealth of adherents.

You are underestimating the Muslims. They funnel large amounts of money all the time. They link their "cause" to their religion. You might want to check them out. I know our government is watching them.
