How do you handle customers who are being just too demanding? We are especially low-staffed in the evenings when I work and I am usually the only person at the counter. I get a few customers that expect me to run back and forth and bend over backwards for them. I know the customer is always right and I am happy to assist in anything within reason. But there are just those few that you want to smack and tell them I cannot do everything they want in two seconds, especially when I have other guests to help as well.
I had a guy who came in and harrassed me to no end because I did not get to him right away and I had a handful of other guests before him. He ultimately ended up cursing me out terribly in front of everyone and all I could politely say was that I'm only one person and somewhat gestured to my obvious belly. He wasn't happy with that. So how do you handle these customers who expect that even if you're pregnant you can do anything and everything right when they say jump?

I managed a nightclub, restuarant and martini lounge,

Ideally, we wanted the staff to be able to turn thier attitude around with a vibrant personality but

If a guest was extremely rude, I would look the other way and let the staff say something back, or refuse service.
But it has to be F-U with a smile.
Im sorry, it must be hard to make friends with an attitude like that...
Did you expect me to move faster because you are being rude? doesnt work that way here buddy.

We are selling an experience, not just food and drinks. If the guest comes in and harasses the staff, then the staff cant ensure that others are having a good time as well and ultimately you lose more business than that.

Plus, there should be enough staff working, if not the manager needs to step in to help out.

i have been in the restaurant business my entire working career until last august. i can definate ly sypathise with what you are going thruogh. There was one occasion i had when i was working in a pizza place, i was 8 1/2 mo pregnant when one very rude guy (it's almost always the men) made a comment along the lines of "it looks like you've had enough pizza to eat, why don't you save some for the customers" i almost smacked him. My advise get out of the restaurant business it was the best move i have ever made. i now prepare taxes (i know boring, huh) but it pays great and it is not that hard to learn. besides now i'm off my feet and have plenty of energy to play with my little guy when i get home!

I know exactly what you mean, I have waitress before, and had the same problem even when I wasn't pregnant. Just do the best you can, and for those who are impatient and starts to cuss at you , just ignore them, they are the ones that is making a fool of themselves. and next time if it really gets bad go talk to your manager that is on duty and let them know what this person is doing to you. you shouldn't be getting abuse from that person . hang in there. and be strong.one of my co workers was pregnant and waitressed all the way up to the time she had her baby. some people think that we can do everything at once and that we should forget the others and wait only on them.

I worked in a high-traffic deli when I was pregnant. We had customers act just like you described sometimes. I'd just ignore them and let them yell while I worked at my own comfortable pace. They're making themselves look like a$$holes-let them. I wasnt going to work myself to death just because they were being impolite. My baby is a lot more important than some ignorant jerk. The customer is not always right-don't listen to them when they're demanding too much from you. You're pregnant and you don't need the stress that they want to put on you. If they don't like it, let them leave.

Smile and get through it. It is not like Managers always say "The Customers are always Right". There are times that they aren't and we should be trained how to tell them in a nice and polite way.

You shouldn't get special priviledges just because you are pregnant. If you can't do your job function and want to use your pregnancy as an excuse for everything, maybe you should find a job that is less demanding.
