The food you are feeding is a good food. Here are a few more that are good: Solid Gold, Wellness, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Innova, and Artemis Fresh Mix, there are several more but these are really good foods. They may be a bit pricey initially but they come out cheaper because you feed less. These are 100% human grade dog food with NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers or by products – and naturally preserved.

The link I have provided sells dog food online but you can also look up the ingredients (on this site) to any of the ones I have listed plus any other dog foods you may be interested in.

Purina, Iams, Alpo, Eukanuba, Science Diet, are Low Quality

Nutro is low to medium quality, depending on the kind you get. They also have a premium "Holistic" formula that's great.

Natural balance, blue buffalo, evo, canidae, wysong, wellness, 'chicken soup', and a few others are what most people label Ultra Premium. Main ingredients vary by the brand and the variety, but none of these brands contain high allergen foods (like corn) or fillers and they use 100% human grade ingredients.

I personally use Natural Balance and I'm constantly ask what I feed our dog because her coat is SO shiny, she doesn't smell, and she's in such good shape. It's fairly readily available at Petco and other pet food stores and it's actually cheaper than some of the Science Diet and Eukanuba varities.

PS - Yahoo Answers' pet section has a lot of clueless people in it. Be sure to take the advice given here and apply it to your own research. There are a ton of Backyard Breeders and puppy millers and "I leave my dog in the garage/crate 12 hours a day" people on here, along with a whole bunch of under 15 years olds, so just be very aware of the source of the advice. (they are the ones who thumbs down everyone who doesn't agree with their terrible advice)

Have you looked into the Avoderm line? The same company makes Avoderm, Pinnacle and Breeders Choice. They use human grade ingredients, but do not compound on this, as the company believes that even if it is "human grade" coming in, it is all "pet grade" going out. I used to feed Nutro, But I have been soo pleased with the Avoderm that I have switched. Here is a link. The ingredients vary depending on which food, but it is all very high quality.

Eukenuba is good. I have one word of advice tho. Never give the dog "people food". If the only thing the dog ever eats is dog food from the bowl, it will never beg you for food while your eating. My dog can sit on my lap while I eat a hamburger undisturbed. And she's healthy as can be! Enjoy your dog!

First off, what kind of age dog do you have? Are you starting them out as a puppy or as an adult??

If a puppy, start them out on hard food as that is the best for their digestive system. Science diet i've found is the best, even though it is expensive. I've had my dog on cheap food which he didn't digest very well, and I switched him in the last month or so to Science Diet wet food (which he has to have) and he loves it. Make sure you stick with their age range, they usually have puppy formula, adult formula, and also ranges from light to regular formulas as well. You could also ask your vet what they recommend for your dog. Good luck!!

There are two dog foods I would reccomend

Nutro and Royal Canin. These two are about the best you can get for your little friend.
