If Chrysler does the same with the Challenger and GM does the same with the Camaro, we'll ALL be driving Hyundai crap....greed heads. They pulled the same crap when mini vans came out..like they don't make enough profit when they rip you off on trade ins or overpriced parts and service....I hope they all go belly up.

Get a grip Cindeechic.
You obviously don't know much about the auto industry.
MSRP means "Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price"

Dealers can sell for ANY $ amount. Above or BELOW.
Do you complain when you get a discount & are able to negotiate BELOW the MSRP ?

Consumers can buy any one of about 1000 or more vehicles on the market. If they choose to buy a vehicle that is in limited quantity & high demand, then that is their choice.

Profit is not a bad word in the auto industry or ANY OTHER INDUSTRY for that matter. Did you try to by a "Tickle Me Elmo" this year? Or any new electronics?
When you buy a tube of toothpaste (for example) at one store & then find it's being sold at another store cheaper (store #1 more profit than store #2), are you angry at the manufacturer of the toothpaste?
Every business in the world is based on profit.
What do you do for a living?
Do you do what you do for profit? Would you still do it if it wasn't profitable?

Ford is not going broke. They are restructuring the company to align with supply & demand. The losses that the company is posting are NOT due to lack of sales. They are offering to 'buy out' peoples jobs, which ia admirable. They could've just fired employees & paid out a lot less in unemployment compensation.

Be careful what you wish for! If they all go "belly up" as you suggest......your life will be dramatically (economically) effected.
I suggest that you read :
http://www.thecarconnection.com/pf/Auto_News/Commentary/At_Witz_End_Whats_an_American_Car.S192.A11981.html
[[It's about the auto industry & how it affects your (assuming you live in North America) way of life.]]

As for the overpriced parts & service comments, I suggest you also read the following Q & A from an auto technicians stand point:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArXSOQq9HP2qnT4NHq6ky3Tty6IX?qid=20070222181402AAoOImW

These people (auto techs) spend big bucks for tools & schooling, should they NOT be paid a profitable living?

And as for the dealers ripping you off by paying less for a trade in.......sell it yourself!
Dealers buy @ wholesale to sell @ retail. This is true of EVERY retail business. Going back to the 'toothpaste' example.....a retail store buys the tube @ wholesale price from the manufacturer & sells it @ retail for profit.

Go Figure?
Profit!..... It's a way of LIFE!

As far as I know Chrysler is up for sale. I’m well connected in the car business and I can't even get one for msrp, The best I can get one for is 5k over. You need to start calling places and doing your research if you really want to get close to 5-7k over. The market is hot right now on these cars just like every new car that comes out that enthusiast show interest for. so course your going to see huge mark ups.. there not stupid either so there going to take 100% advantage of the situation.. So it's not just ford dealers that do this to there customers Honda, Chevy , Nissan...ect have done it for years.. Believe me they all do this at some point..
Now you have to take in to account that this car is a little more special than others because of the production run. 8000 of them are going to be made for 2007.
With an increase of 30% for 2008 just to round off 10700 in production and for 2009 who knows???? That is if they don't change the mustang by then with and update or reskin.
Are these cars rare? Maybe, Maybe not..
Would I pay 5k over for it, my answer is "NO"
I'll wait till the 08 are out and in full swing before I do try to purchase one. by then the challenger and camaro will be out and take much of the GT500's steam away.
and
About dealers ship ripping you off on a trade in, have you thought about selling you vehicle privately ? you really want to know what a rip off is try a 300$ oil change at Mercedes now that’s a rip off or a 350$ dollar inspection at BMW and don't get me started on parts and labor LOL...

P.S. New York Auto show there will be A announcement of a Shelby GT-500KR and SVT COBRA R
This should be interesting. APRIL 6
But I'm Sure your just venting on a bad experiance you had at a dealersship..
Which I think is OK..The venting part that is..LOL

Yeah this is called After Dealer Markup or ADM. It's not Ford's fault. They got paid by the dealership. The dealership is asking what they think they can get for the car. You can fully expect the Challenger to have an ADM. For its first year you can expect the Camaro to have it too.

OBTW, even the Toyota dealership by me is asking for ADM, but for EVERY NEW CAR on their lot. They are calling it a Market Value Adjustment or something like that. Don't just think its Ford Dealerships that are doing it.

Right, and Toyota dealers are doing the same thing with FJ and the new Toyota truck has a base price of $2000 more than a GM,Ford or Dodge.

Ford isn't going broke from the deal. Ford sold 10,000 stock vehicals to Shelby, Shelby modified them and then sold the vehicals to the SVT dealers. It's the SVT dealers that would be losing any money on the deal, but they won't because they know some millionare or one of their kids is going to go and buy it without caring about the price. That's the market the SVT dealers are going for. I heard that since they are modified and SVT vehicals are declared racing vehicals, there is no warrenty on SVT products either. That means if the engine falls out or freezes up while driving off the lot, the owner of the vehical will have to pay the cost. The rich don't care about that.

As someone said..all dealers do it because of the supply vs demand that was brought up.. if you don't buy it, someone with more money will...

Unless you want to wait and order one from your dealer for 2008 delivery and put down a little wad for the privledge.. most people will pay to have now....

Harley Davidson, Honda,Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge.... They have all had dealers do it... more wanting it thatn supply.

No one wants a bland Hyundai, hince you can buy them all day for.. it's more utilitarian than "image" like the others are...

they wouldnt do it if people werent buying them at the markup.

Supply vs Demand.

and ford does not own the ford dealerships. theyre independantly run. Ford also doesnt get the profits from the dealers. The dealer buys the car from ford at a standard rate, then sells them for whatever they can get for them. Thats how it works.

Its got nothing to do with Ford Motor Company. Its the dealership, they're independent franchises.

Shop around state wide via email and kbb.com and expedia.com. You should be able to buy it around invoice if you're good, at msrp "out the door" as a worst case scenario.
Key thing: shop around.

News flash------no one is forcing you to buy a Shelby! If you're buying a 500hp car that's built to shred tires , do you really care if it doesn't get 25 mpg?
