I want black streaks in my hair and my boyfriend wants to dye his hair ATLEAST at darker color. and both of our moms say, "No!"

I want to know a good reason for them saying no. (Besides the fact that they don't want us to)

I work in the hair industry and dying your hair can really damage it. You'll get twice as many split ends and your hair will become more prone to breakage.
Your mother might just be worried that either you won't get it professionally done and it will be a mess or that it will damage your hair.
I know that your hair really expresses who you are but I reccomend waiting until your old enough to pay to get it professionally done in a good salon and then suggest that to your mother.

This is what I used to tell my daughter...we had a rule that there would be no hair colors that humans would not have naturally (pink, green, etc.).

"The way that you present yourself to the world is a message that tells everyone what kind of person you are. The way you put yourself together tells a story about who you are on the inside - and yes, you should always believe that most people judge the book by the cover.

That said, until you are 18, < I > am responsible for the message that your appearance sends. Much like I will not let you out of the house wearing nothing but a miniskirt and your bra, I cannot let you choose that hair color, because I'm not comfortable with the message that it might create."

I'm not sure I'd have the same message with just black streaks, but that's my input.

I used to dye my hair all the time (I went black, blonde, darker brown, and even pink once) but the damage from it eventually forced me to stop. I still hate my hair color, but perhaps you could ask your mom for a more natural hair coloring, like henna? Or if you want darker hair, a espresso or coffee rinse could do that. Also, I once read this story about a woman who dyed her hair with horrible results. She used a box of Nice 'n' Easy, and she had an allergic reaction and all her hair fell out. So... you should use a natural method to darken your hair, or even just get black hair pieces.

Parents have the right to dictate these things based upon what they feel is best. Traditionally, legally, that's the way it is. All teens rebel, but good parents usually don't approve. I died my hair first with henna, which makes it an ugly red color and stinks. Then I died it black, but I was over 18. Just chill out and stop wasting energy fighting your parents. You'll have plenty of time once you're 18 to experiment with hair color. A lot of time what you think might look good--doesn't.

I would imagine you're a young teen.
In addition to the damage dyeing could potentially do to your hair, it's also expensive to keep up and looks horrible when you don't. Perhaps your mothers fear that you're going through a stage and won't care to earn the money to keep up your hairstyle and they won't have to pay the fix it and they don't want their children looking messy.
Also, the styles you've described sound a bit alternative, so I'd guess your parents don't want to be embarrassed by their children rebelling against them.
I feel your pain; I was 18 before I was allowed to dye my hair black (and it's naturally very dark brown). Word of advice: please don't do it anyway. That's more trouble than its worth.

Maybe because it's alot of work to keep up and it's not all that much fun sitting there dying your hair. And it's pretty expense to get it done at a salon (or so I hear) and at home it's messy and you can really mess up your hair. Or maybe they just like the natural you better.

dying your hair can be very damaging. the damage increases the younger or older you are. maybe your mom wasn't satisfied with what you suggested. i would ask her to reconsider if you wanted to go with some highlights that were a closer shade to your hair color and gradually dye it all.

You should be happy with your self, and not want to change, you look fine the way you are, they like you likr that, it wouldn't be right.
These are some excuses parents could use, of course I don't agree with any. Good luck!

They are probably worrying your doing it to fit into the crowd and not because of your own decision.
