Although not correct....my dad used to tell me to duck if I heard it cos the ball was coming "fore" my head...LOL. but it really does mean ahead. :)

It means "ahead" and was used on old battleships as a warning. Check out the address below.

when people were fighting they used it as meaning "ahead" and golfers picked up on it. it started when they were fighting on the seas. i had no idea what the answer was until i just asked my dad lol.
