I just took my beloved dog into the vet this morning. She has been vomitting for the past 24 hours, getting increasingly worse. I was told that they would run labs and look into pancreatitis as the diagnosis. Just this cost me $700 (tests, antibiotics, pain med, x-rays, day at hospital)

The vet just called and told me that the x-rays could indicate a foreign body in her intestines.

My question is this.....if she needs surgery to remove a foreign body, what is the approximate cost of such a surgery? We are already $700 into this, and I cannot justify spending thousands right now on my 10 year old mix-breed. Don't get me wrong. I love my dog, but I have to eat, and the vet doesn't have a payment plan.

Does anyone know a rough estimate on how much a gasteric surgery might cost....$1000? Or $5000?

i am really sorry to hear that, pancreatitis is really painful but with proper meds and care she will get better.... gasteric surgery can cost anywhere between 500 to about 10000 depends on where you live what kinda dog she is age, size wieght.... and there is still no garuntee on if she will make it through.... unfortulatly.... if you can i would check out some other vets in your area and see if they have a pay ment plan... there is no harm or hurt feelings if you cant afford to pay for it all at once... i would kinda shop around....

UNfortunatly this is part and parcel of owning a dog. You should always have emergency vet trip money saved up or a pet insurance plan. It is your responsiblity to make sure he gets the medical attention he needs.

This being said, the bill already sounds steep for what was done. I suggest perhaps looking into finding a new vet that does do a payment plan and maybe costs a little less.

Good luck
