The first few days a substance called Colostrum comes out and it is like a big vaccine for the baby. They say it makes a child smarter. I think it depends on the mothers habits as well, if you drink and smoke then I think the benefit is low, but if you are healthy it can only help the baby not to be on chemical formula.

When my son was born 2 months early, the doctor told me that breast feeding gives the baby antibodies to build up his or her immune system. Especially what they call the colostrum( don;t know how to spell it) which is a yellow color that comes the first week or so.
