well if you are having a BBQ get a keg of beer. if you are having some sort of dinner party serve mixed drinks. if you are looking to get wasted just do shots of whiskey.

Some companies that still serve drinks at it's functions issue 2 coupons that are good for the drinks. That way they limit their liability and if someone gets drunk then they had to buy the liquor themselves and the company isn't liable and the people that served the drinks is.
The type of alcohol served would depend on the event. Usually beer and mixed drinks cover most of the functions.
Some people don't like beer and some only drink beer.

Ok, I bartend at the Metrodome in Minneapolis (home of the MN twins and Vikings) and the Xcel energy center (Minnesota wild) in St paul. Here is what they do. We serve 20oz beers and mixed drinks (only single and double shot drinks-- NO shooter drinks). All of the bartenders have gone through a lot of training on being able to spot those who should not be served anymore, and have ways of communicating to other bartenders who has been cut off (via a closed phone system in the building and building security)
