I'm just moving in and I need to paint the kitchen. The cabinets are light maple and the floor is wood of similar color and the countertop is also light. The room does not get alot of light so I'm afraid to use red which I think would look awesome. PLEASE help...I'm not sure what I should do. I'm pretty open but would like something that flows with my living room which is tan (walls) brown (couch) and teal (accent).

If it were me i'd paint it a light creamy tan. Almost a coffee with creamer in color. That will accent nicely against the wood in the kitchen, keep the room light and flow with the ret of your home. If you want some boldness in there, get towels, canisters accessories etc. in the bold colors. i think red accent would be gorgeous in there and not overpower the room. Good luck.

Let it flow! Paint the walls the same tan as your living room or if it is a dark tan a lighter shade but in a semigloss sheen(for easy clean up) Pick a small area of your kitchen for the red also in a semigloss sheen maybe under the cabinets or the wall above the cabinets but only the walls, maybe white ceilings(makes the kitchen look large and brighter). It's really all depends on the way your kitchen is design for the accent walls. Try to picture it before you paint and the best thing about it if you don't like you can paint over it. Have Fun!

Do not be afraid - be brave and go with the red at least on one accent wall but all over is good to. Not a fire engine red but a nice deep wine color is awesome in kitchens. Did you know red stimulates the appetite? It's perfect for kitchens!

With light maple cabinets and flooring a yellow/tan/beige wall color is just all going to blend together into a big bland blob. The red will give it life and personality. It will also go well with the living room. You don't need to have the same colors in each room for them to flow.

Have courage and follow your heart to the red! :o)

I don't know why but a rusty/earthy orange colour came immediately to mind. Sometimes a dark colour in a dark room can work well and make it feel warm. Especially true if the light you get is from the north (for some reason the light seems bluer). An Ochre colour might also look nice.

We have a maple kitchen and have used a light bright and fresh green which looks lovely.

Congratulations on your new home!

How big is the kitchen? Does it have the back door in it? If so I would paint the door red. But the rest of the walls I would do in a light green. I did a lot of colors in my kitchen and did a Bistro theme with the fat chefs. I went to wal mart first and found the theme I wanted the chef curtains have red in them and my back door is red. The cabinets are green back ground and the doors are yellow. I have wine bottles and wine boxes. I also have fake fruit from Michael's

I'd go with a light olive green to complement the cabinets. Something with maybe a blue undertone might be nice so that it doesn't clash, but complements your living room. Tan and brown of course are easy to complement but I think any yellow tones, even yellow greens will NOT look good with maple cabinets.

an considerable tip to undergo in strategies is that cool colorings like blues, vegetables and purples push the partitions out. heat colorings deliver the partitions in. If the cabinets are in reliable shape, i might leave them on my own. If not, top and paint them a coloration of the wall shade you opt for. as an occasion, in case you determine to paint the partitions a green, paint the cabinets a darker sleek green. this might seem unusual, yet you could desire to photograph the room as an entire. you could finally end up choosing a shade for the cabinets which you do in comparison to at for the era of itself, yet as an entire room this is going to look fantasatic! that's needed enable the attention to pass continuously throuhout a small room. in case you have a lot of colorings in starking assessment, the attention gets perplexed and end at each and each which will in turn make the room sense smaller. replace cabinet hardware to function interest. you will hit upon extra suggestions and help with shade right here.

How about Sherwyn Williams' compatible cream? It's a lovely light buttermilk color that radiates light and warmth. You could paint one wall a burnt orange to balance the light tones.

Of course, red would be wonderful. You can buy those battery operated stick on counter lights now and underlight the counters to help brighten the room.

I agree w/most of the other posters... I'd go w/ a nice creamy color, and then use accent colors that complemented those in the living room - teals, caramels, (maybe even some green shades) etc.

To make kitchen more radiant, you can paint the walls in light colors and introduce dashes of color through the walls, complements, and ornaments.
