As a child of a German mother - I have to say it is absolutely the best and I have to agree that it is very hard to come by in the USA - why, I don't know. I love all their breads and pastries. There is no bread (brochen) like their bread. I WANT SOME GERMAN BREAD - any kind would do.
My mom was a great cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I lived in Germany 6 years and have vacationed there twice. THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT. I miss it.

I find a lot of my friends and such have trouble with some of the sausages.
Me, on the other hand (and my dear old Dad) love German food. One of my favorite places to eat back home in TN is named Linderhof, and is all german. I had a lot of fun when I spent some time in Munich, too. Lots of good eats out there. And no shortage of good beer.
Tonight is my fiance's birthday and she's pondering an Austrian/German place up the street from us for dinner. Hope she picks it!

Come on...
Its like so many things - some you like - some not. For example I find that sauerkraut is definitely an acquired taste, I find that all German cheeses taste like Dutch Edam and a continual diet of wurst really annoys me. That said I enjoy much of German food. It's a pity that they don't have potatoes like Maris Piper or King Edward though.

the problem with German food in America is finding someone who knows how to cook it. I love weiss wurst, spatzel, ruladen, jaegerschnitzel, etc, but our best german restaurant has closed and my neighbor is getting too old. having grown up in the Alsace-Lorraine region I enjoy French and German but if I had to choose? French

I spent eight years in Germany. Yes, I miss the food. It seemed to me like they take great pride in preparing and presenting each meal. that includes form the big restaurants on down to the country Inns. Man, I miss Pommas (Pom) Fritz mit mayonaise. Getting hungry, gotta go....Cheers!

I've never had authentic German food. I'm always up for new experiences, though! One day I'll try some and see if you're right!

not much on it. My mother in law is german and all we eat are schnitzels and some other sausage things..Then there are the noodle drops that she makes.
There is a german restaurant up the street from my house and I hate everything on their menu.

I think it's very good (depends on what it is) but it tends to be quite heavy (although I find a lot of foods very heavy). I do lurve my Wurst, though!
