Try giving yourself a 'two hour total wind down' before you go to sleep ... don't drink ANYTHING, and no 'caffeine' or sugar in your drinks after NOON ... and start by 'meditating' for twenty minutes, then taking a 'long hot bath' and then sitting in a 'chair' but being 'comfortable' and with a 'lower light' that is 'behind you' and read only something that isn't 'exciting enough' to keep you awake. ALWAYS go to bed at the same time every night, and always get up at the same time every morning ... EVEN WEEKENDS. Try to give yourself a full seven to eight hours to sleep ... and 'get right out of bed' when you 'wake up' even if it is in the 'middle of the night' ... in which case you should 'go to your chair and read your 'basically boring book' until you are ready to turn the light out and go back to sleep again.

I can relate! An important thing is, stay off the computer and TV for at least 2 hrs before bed...the screen stimulates the brain because of the light.
Make sure your bedroom is slightly cooler than the rest of the house.
Listen to chill-out music or read a pleasant book
Establish a routine that sets your mind for bed: maybe a hot bath or shower, a warm drink, and some music or reading as aforesaid. I always read a while in bed before turning off the light, something light.
Make sure you get some physical exercise during the day, esp. if you work online all day. A brisk walk will help, even if you don't have time/money to go to a gym etc.

A banana and hot milk - in a liquidiser. Add sugar, honey or what ever sweetener you prefer.

LAVENDER: Sprayed on your pillow,

A note pad by the side of your bed, write what ever it is that is worrying you, then forget it till the morning.

Get lots of fresh air and have a nice long walk during the day.

May be you do not actually need as much sleep as you think you do? Some folks manage on a very few hours, so do not beat yourself up about it, that makes it worse, go find a good book of watch TV, or so something you really enjoy, listen to relaxing music. Hope that helps!

Stay off the booze. You may fall asleep quickly but you will not enjoy good, deep sleep. And, you will likely wake 3-4 hours after falling asleep.
Do not go to bed within 2 hrs. after exercising. Do not go to bed on a full stomach. Before going to bed take some melatonin to help you sleep. Another good sleep aid is trazadone. It is prescribed by a doctor and is supposed to be non-addictive. Be sure your room is at a comfortable temperature.

There a lot of things you can do. Get off the coffee and other stimulants. Get regular exercise. Stop eating close to bedtime. Turn off the TV, radio, etc, these will only stimulate you more. Take a warm bath about an hour before you want to go to bed. See and acupuncturist for acupuncture and see about getting chinese herbs. They can be customized for you and don't worry, most of them are more like food or nutritional supplements than drugs. You can also get relaxation CD's that are designed to entrain your brainwave patterns to those of someone sleeping. Some swear by warm milk as well.

Try to exercise about four or five hours before bedtime. This will expend any extra energy your have built up. Try to avoid the computer or TV for about 30-45 minutes before bed because this can stimulate your mind. Also avoid caffeine and sugar and try to get into a regular 'bedtime routine', this helps to get your mind and body use to calming down, relaxing and finally falling asleep.

Take a 1/2 hour to 1 hour brisk walk shortly before retireing and then drink a warm cup of milk and go to bed. You might also try running a fan in the room on low, facing the wall. (white noise)
