The name "Sinai" is mentioned in the Bible (Exodus 16, I and Exodus 19, I), but it is not known where it originally came from. One thought is that it might derive from the word "sin", which is the name of an ancient god of the moon. In Greek "sin" meant "falling short of the mark," which in this case Moses' people certainly did.
According to the Bible, Moses wandered for decades in the region of Sinai. It is believed that God spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai. There is no documentation that God lived on the mountain, only that it was where He chose to speak to Moses.

Sinai has two possible origins. The most probable is that the name is derived from the Sumerian moon god named Sin who is known for teaching wisdom.
The other theory is derived from the Hebrew word "sin-ah" meaning "hatred" and refers to the idea that the Jews would be hated by the world for being the ones to receive the divine word of God.
As for did He reside on the mountain, philosophically the answer is no. The Gods do not live in our world, They operate our world and have complete control over it, but They reside in the Heavenly realms.

God appeared to Moses on Mt. Sinai. Moses was the go-between for God and the Hebrew People. It was at Mt Sinai that Moses lost his chance to enter the promise land. Moses was a prophet and leader.
Jesus came as the fulfillment of prophecy. For the Jew this fact is not accepted.
