Cottage pie has cottages in it, or beef.
Shepherds pie has shepherds in it, or lamb if you can't get fresh shepherds.

Its the same thing except Cottage Pie is made with minced beef and Shepards Pie is made with minced lamb.

Essentially they are the same, but traditionally shepherd's pie is made with lamb, where as cottage pie is made with beef.

Nothing really. It's basically the same. Sometimes folks call it cottage pie when the meat is not ground.
