I have really thick hair to my shoulders. I always pay a lot of money for haircuts and love it when I leave the store, but after the first time I wash it, I can never get the style right...this is because I don't have the time!!! It takes me 30 minutes to completely blow-dry and style my hair. I have a 9 month old son and that time just doesn't exist. I love my current haircut, but I can only do it on the weekends when my husband can watch the baby:)
Anyway, I'm looking for advice on how to cut the blowdrying time down. I only wash my hair every other day. I tried showering at night and just blow drying it straight in the morning, but once it air dries all frizzy and wavy, its impossible to straighten. Plus, I prefer showering in the morning. Any help is appreciated.

Find a haircut that styles itself. I had the same problem with my time, I also have thick hair. Its a problem if you have to go to work or school and have just taken a shower. I have a cut that styles itself so I don't have too. Its much MUCH easier.

First off I would reccomend getting a good ceramic ionic blow dryer. It doesn't have to be expensive maybe around $50-$80 If you have a ulta or spehora in your area check there. If not go to sephora's website or folica to get one.
I would prep the hair with a shampoo for your hair type; fine coarse color treated etc.
Then I would towel dry as much of the water as I could.
Next power dry the hair basically you put it on the highest settings temp and speed moving it rapidly to get it to damp-almost dry.
After that I would put some product in it like a styling creme or serum.
Because you mentioned that you hve very thick hair I would use a comb attachment to strighten it out a little. . it looks like this. .

you can get it at sallys for $3-4 its just called a pik attachment. Then run it through sections of your hair making sure that you are continually moving the dryer down the sections. I forgot to mention to make sure that you lower the temp of your dryer and lower the speed (optional).
In my experiece this should save you enough time so that you would have less work trying to curl it w/ a curling iron or strightein it w/ a flat iron

I have long and curly hair but I love to straighten it. I do two things...one is I wash my hair the night before and put it in a bun. That way, by morning time, it's half way dry already. Also, when I don't feel like blow drying it, and wash it the night before, but go to sleep with it loose, and flat iron it in the morning. Also, if it dries all the way before you finish blow drying, just spray on some leave in conditioner to wet it again. On yeah...don't forget the anti frizz serum. A little right before and a little right after.

Hey I have about the same hair as you thick and down the my shoulders. I say when your blow-drying brush with the blow-drying piece of hair your drying it really helps it get straighter when your finished. Of the topic of being faster there's really nothing you can do to speed up the process. Anyway I hope something works! Good luck!!

Conair has a small hair drier that comes with brush attatchments. I have thick, coarse shoulder length hair that takes about 45 min. to dry. This appliance cut the time down to about 30 min. for me. I absolutely love it.

well, i also have thick hair that use to take forever to blow dry.
now it doesnt take me as long, it takes like 5 minutes.
what i do is i ALWAYS put some kind of product in my hair to prtect it from the heat. then, i flip my head down and blow dry til about 90 percent dry, flip it back up and finish.
also, there are some prodcts that are made specifically to make your hair dry faster.

Why do you have to wash your hair everyday or other days? You should wash once a week. Why don't you wrap your hair before you shower and tie it with a silk/satin wrap and cover with a shower cap. Your hair won't frizz if you do that!
