I know that there is no way to just send an application to the white house and sudden;y fly air force one but must you start off in the regular military and eventually fly the 732's that fly to groom lake then get to air force one or is it just constant with the regular air force?

the planes that fly into groom lake are contractors and not actual air force pilots.

Pilots who fly the VC25's are all from the Air Force, wether it be cargo planes to fighter planes, all have spent many many many hours under all types of conditions. They are the best of the best. You best bet is too join the air force. dont forget any air force plane can be air force one, same goes for the Marines (Marine 1) and Navy

"To be an Air Force One pilot, you must have more than 2,000 hours in the cockpit, worldwide flight experience, and a spotless record"

They are regular active duty Air Force pilots and flight engineers. They are definitely not "Supermen" as described above. Yes, they do have to be interviewed and their records are reviewed closely, but everyone makes mistakes and minor things would probably not stop an applicant. True, you have to have a considerable amount of hours, but like anything in the Air Force, it is waiverable. Normally all these guys and gals start out flying some other Air Force planes then move to VIP support aircraft, and then move up to the VC-25.

To fly Air Force 1 you would have to be a high ranking Air Force pilot and apply for the position, they will evaluate you and only the best of the best get to fly the President... Its nothing you can walk into like you said...

Well,it may be too late for you, but you must have exemplary grades in grade, high school, go to college, excell there, or join the military, or go to military school, excell there, graduate with high honors, then apply to be a pilot, take more years of learning, instruction, many hours of flight time, dedicate your life to the Air Force, and you might be allowed to fly something, not necessarily Air Force One! Might be a fighter, a supply plane, a helicopter, or you might learn enough to fly those remote control spy planes in use now!
Before you can get a cushy job like you seek, you will have to learn how to get in good with everybody above you, never talk back, make no mistakes(and have a good reason why you made one) And you might get to wash down Air Force One! Your diction, speaking, and all things related, must be impeccable, you must learn the proper salute, how to speak to officers, know computers forward, backward, and inside out! A stint in a good Military school helps immensly, especially if you get high grades, and graduate with high honors!
So, not everybody gets in, but I'd be happy if you would at least try! Oh, one other thing--that all costs money, usually paid by your parents, or if you are lucky to get a grant!

To fly the Airforce one (and any airforce aircraft carrying the president can get that call sign, see the movie airforce one if you dont belive me) you need to be a airforce pilot with a bit of luck or a long experience plus that you have to get a job that many wants. Johan

in case you in elementary terms desire to fly "missions" for one 12 months, it rather is advisable to start saving your money now, or merely scouse borrow a jet and the thank you to fly it in a rush! otherwise, turning out to be a member of the militia as an officer is going to guarantee you a minimum of 8 years suited off the bat, no longer counting ROTC. huge step, besides the fact that if it rather is a noble profession to be a militia aviator. As for military or Air tension, that relies upon on what you desire to fly (and stale of what). in case you desire to fly a bomber, than bypass AF. in case you desire to fly an A6 or F-18, then bypass military.

If you are not a Colonel with a SPOTLESS performance, EXCEPTION SKILLS, a TOTALLY CLEAN RECORD, MAXIMUM SECURITY CLEARANCES, and chosen as THE BEST TRANSPORT PILOT IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, don't even THINK about it.
