Crappie season has arived here in Arkansas and I always have a hard time with the light line and low jig weight.

The line twists, it wont cast far enough, the rod is too stiff, and a host of other problems.

BTW the little tiny "ulta light" combos dont cast far enough!!

Can someone help me out and reccomend a combo with at least a 6 foot long rod. It needs to be able to cast with light line and very light jigs for long distances.

It sounds like you're using the right reel but your rod may be too stiff. Use an ultralight rod too. Most ultralight rods are under 6 ft. Berkley makes a trout rod that is 5 1/2 feet that is very, very limber.

The best spinning reel would be either a Shimano Stella or a Daiwa Steez in a 2500 or 2000 size. They are pretty expensive. I just bought a Shimano Stradic 2500 for $91 and love the smoothness it has. After doing a little more research I found out that the Daiwa Capricorn is a slightly better reel for about the same price.
If you would like to look at a comparison of the two reels look at this website.

The rod I would get for crappie would be a B'n'M Sam Heaton Signature Series Jig Rod #SHSS122
a 12 footer or maybe a #SHSS92 at 9' for casting small jigs. These are available at http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=7418&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults
For line I would go with P Line 4 or 6 lb test cofilament.

At least this gives you something to consider.

I personally like the sheakspeare ugly stik with a mitchell 308 reel....but thats my preference. its only a 5ft pole though, and the reel is more medium, but it works for me.
