Most people who fight these camera tickets get out of them. I think California requires a clear picture of the driver from these cameras. If you can prove you were not the driver at the time you should be fine. If you don't schedule a hearing you do have to pay the fine or your license can be suspended after a period of time. Yes, you have to pay it now, without a penalty, or you will pay dearly when you renew you driver's license, and having to find out you can't do so ,unless you pay for any outstanding violations
along with the penalty fees.

If you don't pay it, they'll eventually suspend your license.

Then when you get caught driving on a suspended license, they'll throw you in jail for a few hours.
