My boyfriend and I are going on our very first cruise(I am 19, he is 21). I am a little lost as far as dress code goes at dinner. There are 2 casual nights, an informal, and a formal...what do I wear? And it said something about cover-ups for the pool? Help?!

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM when they request that you wear "sports casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. As for the pool, just wear a "T" shirt while you are walking the halls up to the pool or hot tub and then you can take it off when you get to the pool area .. then put it back on when headed back to your cabin.

The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up. (we usually take off the formal stuff after dinner and pictures anyway).

Each day of your cruise you will receive in your cabin a "newsletter" listing the time, place and particulars of everything happening for you on ship. There are generally activities like demonstrations of ice carvings, napkin folding and towel folding, and cooking demonstrations. Some ships may offer a galley (kitchen) tour or a tour of the bridge. There may be organized games and other activities around the pools. In the evenings there are generally shows, one show for those with an early dinner seating and another (same show) for those who eat late. There is always food available. Usually there is a place in ship where you can go get something. Or, you can always just pick up the phone in your cabin and order from the room service menu (food is free). If you want, you can order breakfast room service.

All ships have a casino with slots and table games. Ships have movie theaters, generally small but nice, and you can also see movies in your room. They have ATM’s and a purser’s desk where you can cash a check or exchange currency if you need to. There is a tour and activities desk so you can schedule land tours and activities.

Ships have free morning exercise programs, stretching and walking, etc, and on some you can pay for other things like Spinning. All cruise ships have gyms so you can go workout, usually any time from 6:00 AM to late at night. There is usually a walking/running track on one of the decks also. Some ships leave the gym open all night. They call the gyms Spa because they do promote getting pampered with things like wraps and massages with aroma therapy. They will also generally have a beauty salon to do hair and nails.

There are always pools. Some ships have more than one and the newer ships generally have an indoor pool as well as outdoor ones and all of these have hot tubs. There is generally a basketball court on the top deck, a place for scuffle board, and a mini-golf course. The newer Royal Caribbean ships have a rock climbing wall and the newest one has a pool for water surfing.

There are places on ships to play cards and board games, and the cards and games are provided. If you want to just sit and read, there’s a library where you can bring your books or select one from the shelf. Ships have internet cafes and some offer WIFI if you bring your prefer to use your computer in your cabin (some ships offer notebooks for rent). There are cocktail lounges that feature a variety of music. Some have a piano bar with jazz. There is usually a disco that starts after 10:00 PM each night and last until everyone leave. On certain days ships will have special activities like a chocolate lovers buffet, or a midnight deck party .

On casual nights you can wear nice jeans or capris, DO NOT WEAR SHORTS! Informal can be anything from dress pants to a nice skirt or dress. On formal nights wear something really nice. On both of my cruises I wore prom type dresses. But the dress doesn't have to be long, it could be tea length. For your boyfriend, he should wear a nice suit and tie on formal nights or a tux. Casual nights he can wear jeans, nice pants and a polo. Informal nights dress pants and a nice shirt and tie or a suit and tie, whichever.
When dining on the deck instead of the dining room it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you are clothed and are decent. If all else fails you can always call the cruise line and ask what you should wear. And if necessary you can buy or rent dresses, shoes, and suits on the ship if you don't have anything. Have fun!

Casual - most cruise lines do not approve of shorts and tank tops in the main dining room; but the buffet decks you can wear whatever you please. In the main dining room, casual/informal is slacks, top, skirt...for women and no tie, slacks and shirt [open neck or crew type]

Formal can be anything from cocktail dress or dressy pants suit to long gowns - for women and for men suits, sports coat and even open neck dress shirts to tux.

Cover ups for the pool - this is usually only when walking around...going to pool deck bars....a cover up can be a 'tie-wrap' , a mesh shortie pull over or the like

The cruise line can give you dress code. We are going on a Royal Caribbean 7 night S. Caribbean cruise next month. They have two formal nights. This requires women to wear a cocktail dress and men to wear a suit or tux. A sport coat will not do.
As for cover ups, most women use them.
There are plenty of things to do while on the ship. Go to the website of your cruise company and click on the ship you will be sailing on. They will tell you what there is to do onboard, such as swimming, exercise, min. golf, shows, casino, etc. Have fun.

Pablo Cruise did the tune Love will uncover some way. I take into account the album quilt is blue. I nonetheless like that tune. Beats Tom Cruise via a mile. But a Mediterranean cruise might be particularly quality correct now.

Your formal night wear something elegant, nice dress and hair nice and neat. Informal wear like dress pants and nice top, summer skirt and top just not short, or nice summer dress. Girl- don't wear jeans or shorts - ok for a guy with button up shirt. As far as the pool it's ok to walk around in bathing suit they just don't want G-string. Hope I helped I've been on a few. Have fun!!

some people really do up the formal night. Have fun with that -
Go to TJ Maax or Marshalls and find a charming dress.
Otherwise get things you like to wear if you were eating out at just a nice place in the summer. Capri's, a nice blouse
a skirt. Whatever you feel fun and comfy in.

I don't think a cover up is needed unless you mosey up to the bar - or walk in for lunch. They don't like you parading around in a bathing suit - so have a cute skirt to go with your bikini (suit)..

Have fun!
