No one seems to have a clue, do they? The correct answer is Mendelssohn. His father was a successful banker and he even had a private orchestra to try out his new compositions. His music reflects his comfortable life: easygoing, gentle and polite, and energetic, with none of the struggles of life which you see in other composers' works. Not to say his music doesn't have musical merit, though...

Charles Ives (one of the great early American composers) made a fortune selling insurance before devoting himself to composition. The business kept growing while he grew more and more famous as a composer. The link is an interesting read.
