I'm getting married on the beach this summer. It is going to be a short ceremony - we are all about the reception! Anyhow, I'm having a hard time picturing the ceremony...

Would it be ok to have everyone stand since it will be really short or should I put out chairs. And will the chairs work well in the sand (that might be a dumb question)?

Any ideas?

A beach wedding sounds perfect, a dream come true!
If its going to be shorter than 20 min's than dont bother with chairs. Letting your guest stand for that short time will be fine. Make sure that there will be a line down the middle for you to walk down. So either a long carpet or some rose peadles to make one. This way people will be lined up not all over the place. If its going to be over a half an hour long than chairs will probably be best, you can rent beach chairs that work best in the sand.
Congratulations!!

It depends on how many people are attending. If it is a small number, then everyone standing is not a problem. If you have quite a few people coming, you'll want chairs so everyone can see the ceremony no matter how short it is.

Chairs will work find in the sand.

I think they can stand since it will be a short ceremony and also you'll save money since you don't have to rent some chairs! Besides, you are going to be on the beach...they need to stand with their toes in the sand anyway! It will be more fun that way.

In California on the sand for small parties and short ceremony, people stand. If older people or health problems, brind folding chairs down for them.
Announce before hand that they are to wear shoes knowing they will be in sand and also on the reply to the wedding have a check box for people who are requesting chair if they cannot stand.
Congrats, have lots of fun on your special day

Most people stand during beach ceremonies. Keep it short and simple and go have a great time at the reception.

Well since it will be in the summer and on the beach, I think it would be nice if you had some chairs for the guests, no matter how quick or slow the ceremony will be. Especially those who are older or sick or get easily dehydrated.

I think that its a great idea to have everyone encircling the couple while they do their vows. You have to take into consideration the physical needs of your guests, though. Can everyone "stand" for a 20 minute ceremony? You can intersperse chairs for those that need them. You might also consider the weather during the ceremony.

I went to a beach wedding last fall. We all stoop up, no chairs! The cermony was only 10 minutes, so it was senseless to have chairs on the beach. We surrounded the couple, is was beautiful, toated at the beach with champagne and then proceeded to the reption site.

Good luck and congrats

If you are having a casual-relaxed type wedding, one really cute idea would be to have beach blankets in your colors. That would be really unique and the guests can choose whether to stand or sit. (Of course for those who aren't able- beach chairs!) I love the other person's idea of flip flops. Good luck, sounds like a great time!
