You can't do it with words and logic. You can't do it in a few words of brilliant argument. You have to do some work and actually look at the numeric data. That's how science works. Climate scientists have done it and the vast majority of them (reference below) believe the data conclusively shows man is responsible for the majority of the present climate change.

The report below is based on a mountain of peer reviewed data. On page 4 it lays to rest the idea that this is solar variation. That is 0.12 watts per meter squared while man caused warming is 1.6 watts per meter squared.

http://www.ipcc.ch/spm2feb07.pdf

This shows how man is overcoming nature. The little teeth are plants trying to regulate CO2 by the "carbon cycle". The big surge upward is us, burning fossil fuels containing carbon the natural cycle buried over many thousands of years.

What I don't have a simple reference for is the fact that the present warming is far faster than any previous natural cycle. But it's why climatologists reject that idea.

This shows clearly that the vast majority of scientists do indeed support the fundamental ideas of global warming; it's real, it's us, and it's a problem.

Do you respect any of the guys below? They don't get their science from Al Gore, they get it from the best scientists in the world.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."

Russell E. Train, Republican, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush

The movie "Swindle" is just silly propaganda, done by a guy whose standards are suspect (Channel 4 had to publically apologize for his misleading work in another video) and scientifically incorrect. It's been completely discredited. Read these:

There are several more websites debunking the movie.

I don't think it can be proven conclusively that humans are responsible for global warming, but the logical argument goes like this:

1) Historical records show that over the last 150 to 200 years average global temperatures have been rising.
2) The amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere has been increasing over the same period.
3) This period correlates to the onset of the industrial age so it seems quite clear that humans are responsible for the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere.
4) CO2 is known to act as a "greenhouse gas" by allowing short wavelength radiation to pass through the atmosphere but preventing much of the long wavelength (infrared aka "heat") radiation from passing through and escaping back into space. The net result should be a gradual increase in heat trapped by the atmosphere.

Simple answer - they're not. Any effect humans have on global climate is so minute as be immeasurable.

Don't waste your time with Al Gore's nonsense. Al Gore is not a scientist, nor does an Oscar count as scientific "peer review". In short, it's all bogus crap just to scare you (and make big bucks for Al). Check this out instead: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4520665474899458831

All you need to know about Al Gore is that he has formed a company to make BIG $ off of "carbon credits", and that he uses more energy in one month than your family does in a year. (Can anyone say "hypocrite"?)

The simple fact is, carbon dioxide is a "trailing" indicator, not a "leading" indicator. As the earth heats up, carbon dioxide increases (not the other way around). Another simple fact is that CO2 is a very minor "greenhouse" gas. The most abundant greenhouse gas is water vapor (around 90% of the total greenhouse gases). CO2 is around 7%. Of the total CO2, humans cause about 4%. For those have trouble with math, that's 4% of 7% of the total greenhouse gases caused by humans, or around .3 percent (that's POINT-3 percent). In other words, almost completely irrelevant. The ocean is by far the largest "cause" of atmospheric CO2. As it's surface is heated, it releases CO2, as it's surface cools, it absorbs CO2.

The entire theory of human-caused global warming is based on computer models. Laying aside the fact that computer models are only as good as their assumptions, here's the real problem: not one of those "models" is able to accurately predict the past trends in earths climate (either the mini ice-ages or the medieval warm period, for instance). Thus the computer models are worthless. You can however, very accurately predict earth's climate using data on solar activity ("sun spots"). Bottom line is, the earth's climate is now, always has been, and certainly for the foreseeable future will be determined by the activity of that enormous ball of fire we call the sun.

Stop listening to Al, the news, and Hollywood, and do some research into actual climate science. You'll be surprised what you find.

Well first to dismiss a common fallacy. Humans aren't responsible FOR Global Warming. We are responsible for excerbating it. The planet would achieve a natural warm cycle without us ever being here. However, due to the high levels of CO2 that humans have introduced into the atmosphere, the natural cycle is magnified.

CO2, and other greenhouse gasses reflect sunlight. UV radiation that does penetrate these layers bounce around striking atoms, and energizing, thus increasing heat. High levels of CO2 trap reflected radiation that would have been bled into space. This 'extra' radiation creates more heat than it would have had it bled into space.

Humans began introducing extra CO2 into the atmosphere since the day we discovered fire. Fireplaces, factories, automobiles, and other artificial devices that burn organic material introduce more CO2 into the atmosphere than would have been there through natural cycles.

Carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up. Coal-burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide pollution -- they produce 2.5 billion tons every year. Automobiles, the second largest source, create nearly 1.5 billion tons of CO2 annually.

Unless there's an unknown species on our plant responsible for technology, "human beings" ARE the cause of global warming as confirmed by scientific studies. If humans used the technologies that exist today to make cars that run cleaner and burn less gas, modernize power plants and generate electricity from nonpolluting sources (which is readily available), and cut our electricity use through energy efficiency, we could save the planet for future generations.

I was aware but being as spoiled as I am, I wasn't terribly alarmed, but my ignorance gave me a hard slap in the face when I saw the documentary narrated by Al Gore called "An Inconvenient Truth" (check out www.climatecrisis.com)

We can all help. We can start by:
*Burning cleaner fuel by using Ethos FR in our gas tanks (http://www.4planetearth.com/home.php)
*Convert our homes to solar power for same amount $ spent on traditional standard electricity.(www.JoinTheSolution.com)
*Recycling

these are some environmental situations not even discussing effects of contaminations of Industry or cities or the internal combustion engine
that is a book by itself

go to the countries on the equator ,check what has happened in history
and listen to what is going on in the many disaster areas on this planet today,(and there are more than ever each year )
: i have seen lands that have been turned from jungle into desserts by people in a matter of a couple of years ,because of the slash and burn method used by settlers and expanding agriculture, and i have seen rivers dry up because of deforrestation in many places in Africa and Mexico ,

i live now by the side of a river in Mexico where,in 30 years 5 species of fish have become exstinct .
and part of the year the river is dry this is for longer every year because of over use of water by agriculture and as a result of deforrestation.

there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification

in recent times thousands of people have died because of exessive heat, usually old people.in India ,Mexico and France,
deforestation causing desertification, the desert conditions causing very cold nights and scorching hot days

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert, the globe where they were got to hot for them .
and instead of producing food they are now needing it from some where else, and they will drastically effect the world food prices when they start buying water in the form of grains ,at any cost destabalising governments, in some countries ,could be the result

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

as far as the food production is concerned, Global warming or some of its effects are serious, rising seas result in landloss

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

more landloss because of desertification every year,we have less areble land to produce food ,for an extra 70 million people ,

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use
