Taper him off. Go see a doctor. That stuff is so dangerous! Abruptly stopping it can be very bad. Depends on how much he has been on and for how long.

I think alot depends on why he is using Methadone, is it for recreational purposes, or does he have a medical condition that it was prescribed for? I use Methadone for pain management, I do know that you cannot abruptly stop using, it has to be weaned out of your system. I would contact a physician and ask about intervention, or load your family member into the car and take him to a rehab center, if he will voluntarilly go, minor you can make him stay, adult and he can leave whenever he feels like it.

First of all, does HE want to get off the methadone? That's a very important factor here. Another important question is why he is taking this in the first place.
Is he getting this from the doctor or from the street? If he is in fact, getting this from the doctor don't assume this is a bad thing for him. If, on the other hand, he is not getting this from a doctor you have every right to be concerned.

hmmm, is he taking the methadone for a reason, or is he using it recreationally? Families can sometimes be such buttinskis.....but if you have concerns, encourage him to go into a drug rehab situation where professionals can safely taper his dosage and clean him up.

Have a family intervention, gather all family members together and tell the addict how concerned you all are about him. Then, reccommend he enter rehab. It would be best if you have rehab information available when you have the intervention. Good luck.
