or a Lutheran instead of a Methodist?
Is it all just personal preference, or some denominations/sects/etc...not really christian and bound for hell?

I'm Methodist because that's the type of church I was raised in. I'm really not sure what the difference is though... we all believe in Jesus & use the Bible. I think it's just the way things are delivered (music & pastors method of preaching).

If you understand how they all link together you will know the answer.
Catholics were the first christian church. Lutherans broke away during the Reformation. It was a good thing too.
more and more broke away and splintered as differences arose. The one of a kind churches felt individuality was important many got kind of strange.
The differences had to do with teachings. Understanding the concept of the "Triune god" How many sacriments their are, whe meaning of communion and whether the wine and wafers ARE the "transubstantiated" blood and body of Christ, OR just a symbol, OR something in between. How babtisn should be done - sprinkle or dunk, whether it should be done to infants or not.
Before Lutheranism, Catholics attended masses spoken only in Latin and a priest celebrated mass and they only witnessed it. WHen they had questons the priest told them what was what and that was it.
Babtist services of today are a worship by the congregation and the pastor assists with understanding the scripture from the members own personal studies. I have been to many churches and studuied the differences. Though this is very simplistic, Find a book that compares them all and read away. Just be aware that the producer will have slants. If you really want to know what a religion is like and what it believes, ask the competition.
The Lutherans will tell you things about Catholics that Catholics don't want told. The babtists think their view point is best. I married one. Good luck.

God does not look at our "nametags" (Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, etc.). He looks at our heart and knows who has accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour from sin.
Some people choose to attend a certain kind of church because it falls more in line with what they believe the Bible teaches. I think that all belivers should read and study their Bibles every day and should choose a church that teaches the truth's of God's Word in the most literal and concise way. Then if their are several churches that do so, they should choose the church where they are best able to use their spiritual gifts to edify that body of believers.
I have chosen to attend a Baptist Church because I have visited many types of churches (Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, etc.) and I feel that the Baptist church sticks the closest to a literal and concise interpretation of God's Word and because it's where I feel I can best serve the Lord.

Actually, I'm a Roman Catholic instead of a Baptist.

This is partially because I come from an Italian Catholic family, but also because I've studied many different religions, and have arrived at the conclusion that Catholicism is the best choice for me, personally.

Baptist beliefs seem to be to be more in line with what the Bible actually teaches. No denomination is perfect, but I have researched many different christian sects (at least I've read their confessional) and I believe that it takes fewer mental gymnastics to match most Baptist beliefs with what the Bible actually says, then it does to reconcile some Roman Catholic beliefs, practices & traditions with what the Bible actually says.

It's much more personal conviction than a personal preference for me. I am equally distant from both Catholic and Baptist beliefs. If I'm going to worship an Almighty God then he must have infinite power and I must have a total inability to lift my head toward heaven on my own. Anything else may as well be self-worship.

I am simply a Christian.

I am not a baptist, nor a Luthern or a Catholic, nor a Methodist. These are not terms that applied to the people who follow Jesus, so do not want to associate myself with such terms.

I am simply a Christian who desires to follow the Bible to the best of my ability.

Are they bound for hell? I am glad that I am not the one who decides such things. I DESIRE for everyone to join me in heaven.

I am christian first. I attened a congragational church as I am happy there but realy do not think the denomination matters as long as you know Jesus. what is most important in a church is a good preacher. I was brought up methodust married to a catholic in a babtist church. bebtised and confermed in an anglican church and realy do not think it matters as long as you look to God first.
we did have a lutheran preacher the other week she often comes to our bible study and our preacher used to be a methodist minister.

I am Baptist because it is the only belief that I have found so far to follow exactly what the Bible teaches. Neither Catholics, Mormons, JW's, Lutherans, Presbetyrians, Methodists, etc, etc, follow God's Word exactly.

And it can be proven easily.... especially Catholics and Mormons.

People choose different demoninations depending on how they make them feel spiritually. I chose Catholicism(which btw isn't riddled with idolatry) b/c in my heart I felt that it was the right path for me. I pray to God everyday, ask for his stength, and I don't completely rely on the Bible, which is open to so many different interpretations. But rather I rely on the traditions of the Church passed down from St. Peter(the initial head of the Church), and Holy Scripture. Do those of you Protestants worship the pictures and decorations on your walls? I'm guessing that you don't just as we don't worship our holy pictures hanging on our walls. Please get some perspective here people!!!
