The purpose of meaning is to provide a filter on reality. Existence is infinitely dense with information and all living things must, as a part of living, reduce the amount of information and focus on information that enhance or preserve life. An existing thing has a meaning if it relates to obtaining food, mating seeking shelter etc. Meaning is a way of weighing the importance and value of sensory information from the environment.
