well, there are the alpha and beta cells in the islets of Langherhans in the pancreas that secrete glucagon and insulin. Insulin causes muscle and liver cells to take up glucose and covert it to glycogen. The liver can also raise blood glucose levels in response to glucagon by breaking down glycogen into glucose, and through a process called gluconeogenesis where amino acids are converted to glucose.
