Fellow atheist here. When you bash a Christian, you only empower them, trust me. SOME of you act like they're burning us at the stake, and you want to get even by asking the same stupid questions everyday? If you were true pursuers of knowledge, you'd read the Bible to understand their position, and take it into the context of what they believe. What am I doing here then? I've studied and admire the Bible, so I answer questions about it

I would agree. I try to light a few candles myself and constant repetition of "why are you so stupid" sort of questions does no one any good.

Still, I've seen far too many christians here who deserve to be bashed. I would only hope that other christians would join in bashing those who attack muslims or jews or catholics or gays or blacks - all of whom I've seen attacked here.

"If you were true pursuers of knowledge, you'd read the Bible to understand their position,"

I have read the bible. I've studied the bible. The bible is one of the biggest advertisements for atheism. What a horrid book that is. So violent and hate-filled. Not to mention the many many contradictions that make no sense. How could anyone live their life by such a book? How could you admire it?

Most of us don't bash Christians, we simply point out how hopelessly ignorant their posts are. I understand "the context of what they believe" quite well - better than they do, as a matter of fact, judging by the numbers who earnestly post Pascal's Wager, ask for proof that god doesn't exist, and claim to have evidence for god's existence rather than having faith in his existence.

If they don't like that, the obvious solution is for them to stop being so ignorant. For example, when a Christian says something correct, I give 'em a thumbs-up, and if it's particularly understanding and thoughtful, I give them a congratulations. I've done that quite a few times, for the Christians who deserve it.

It wouldn't hurt if the Christians would stop lying so much about atheists. And frankly, your suggestion that the issue is that atheists don't understand Christianity suggests that you haven't put much thought into this.

I'm not bashing them. DANG... why do people keep suggesting I am?

I know at least 3 people who have become rational BECAUSE OF this site. I'd say that's an accomplishment.

And I DO understand much of the Bible in the context of the time and place... probably much more than many Christians out there.

I understand their position and I have read the Bible. I just don't like it. The Old Testament is a horrible faerie tale.

If you think they will leave you alone, you really aren't paying attention. There is a constant assault on science and more importantly the way science is taught. In addition in the US they demand that the government help them promote their fantasy at every turn and consider it persecution when a court says no.

I don't bash them; I get bashed by them.

I ask a question about the Bible god, or about something Jesus was supposed to have said; and they answer like I'm stupid or evil.

I have actually defended church people a couple of times when someone asked a nasty question about them.

But I've found that certain questions bring out their rancor and spite and "righteousness", but it's still worth it to ask the questions and see what kind of answers they come up with.

I have studied the Bible, as have many. I understand the context they see it in, but a lot of that is out of the context of the Bible, and the rest of it is purely delusional fantasy. I'm trying to help Christians realize that their religion is only working to divide us, as is any other God fearing religion. We need to be working on uniting the human race, and we can't do that by blaming, and starting wars, we can only do that be accepting, and by aiding those less fortunate.

We need to get rid of money. In fact a large amount of your religion is based on money. Christianity really only took off when Churches realized that they could make money by forgiving sins, of course the forgiveness would need a tithe. in fact you see that bucket on a pole going around, oh snap, your religion still is based on money. Shouldn't Jesus provide for those doing His work, no these false prophets, are preaching a false idol that is ruining humanity, as it thinks it's helping.

Jesus save me, no I've saved myself, and I'm trying to see if anyone wants to join me.

Amen!

We don't bash... we fight back for the unfairness and discrimination.

Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Brain Flemming... even youtube Nick Gisburne with his book "the Atheists Are Revolting!"... we're on the move to having a theism-free world.

Almost every atheist HAS read the Bible. It's the reason they became an atheist.

Religion has reached a point where it is a parody of itself. All we are doing is holding up the mirror, and some can't stand it.
