I see my local police in the bar drunk and watched them get in their car and drive home. These are the same cops that give out DUIs in my town. Something just aint right about that.

The part that "just ain't right" is that we're ruining people's
lives just because they've exceeded an arbitrary limit of 0.08 percent. This has everything to do with politics (see "Mothers Against Drunk Driving") and nothing to do with the imagined threat such drivers actually pose to the rest of us. It has never been illegal to drink and then drive a car. In my life I've seen three different standards for what constitutes "drunk." (0.12%, 0.10%, and 0.08%) Each time they've lowered the standard, millions of additional people have been arrested for DUI. Unfortunately, this politically popular persecution of people who drink has done absolutely nothing to reduce the death toll on America's highways. The unpopular truth is that, in terms of reaction time, being 60 years old is roughly equivalent to being 21 with 2 beers in your belly. (Yes, I do know that 60-somethings have better "judgment.") Instead of token persecution of anyone who has a beer and drives his car, why don't we actually DO SOMETHING about real drunk drivers, the ones with multiple convictions, the ones who injure someone, the ones who kill someone. These folks are the real problem, but America just doesn't have the stomach to prosecute the guilty, because politicians harvest more votes for persecuting the innocent. Your local police, like cops everywhere, have a solid grasp on reality and know what their rights are. You, on the other hand, seem to imagine that police must be held to an even higher impossible standard than the rest of us. By the way, weren't you also drinking in that bar? How did you get home that night?

It is definitely wrong, but don't put all police officers together with your local idiots. Just because the ones in your area do it doesn't mean all police officers do. That's like saying that if a couple accountants, college students, etc. get arrested, then they are all criminals.

You are right though, they are no better than the people they arrest for that and it doesn't matter to me who you are, you drive drunk, you get arrested.

The question is assinine, and the obvious answer is, "No."

If you are indeed seeing this behavior, then do what you woul ddo for any other drunk - call the cops if you see an obviously intoxicated individual leaving the bar. Maybe if you and others approached their employer, the city, or even the media, you could effect a change. Obviously, if there is a regular issue with this, then it needs to be addressed. But NOTHING will happen until someone says or does something about it.

This is the reason I don't go to the bars I live near to. It doesn't matter if you actually are drunk or not, people will accuse you of it if they see you drinking.

The vast majority of officers abhor drinking and driving and won't do it themselves.

Not every cop but about 90% of them have committed at least one criminal offense at one point or another. I used to be in law enforcement and I quit for that very reason.

Yes.

And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
cause Im in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or Ill lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down

No, not all cops are criminals. You'll run into a few who will not set a good example in most every town. It's not right & it's not fair, but it happens. :(

If that's true, then why haven't you done your civic duty and offered him a ride home? Or are you really just making up some bull because you got a ticket so now you hate all cops?

if you see anyone driving impaired, then do your civic duty and report them. Cops that drink and drive impaired are a minority. Don't stereotype all cops together.
