It was something about Pharasaical sects whose disciples would boast about how heavy the "yoke" of their chosen observances was. The Pharisees liked religion to be complicated enough that few could really follow it, and that made them feel special. By describing his requirements on his believers as an easy yoke, Jesus was both expressing compassion for those to whom religion had been heavy-handed, and as usual overturning the accepted religious values of the time.

The yoke is a metaphor for submitting to the authority of Jesus. It's light because he's a good boss - he helps you bear your burden

The Pharisees and Sadducees of the time really oppressed the people with man-made laws and regulations that made it a burden to live for God. Jesus came to remove those man-made regulations (traditions) and bring freedom to those who were bound by them. Jesus doesn't tell people to do something and then walks away, like the Pharisees and Sadducees did. Rather, Jesus gives people the power to do everything He commands them to do.

Where would we be without Jesus? Lost for all eternity. You are confusing a spiritual song with the Bible. Sometimes a christians burdens are not "light", we can get weighted down with the worries of the world, but we know that we can dump our problems on the savior, and he will lighten or carry our load for us. Pray, read your Bible, and God Bless, Martha S.

It may be easy and light, but he also says "Broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who find it." And narrow is the way that leadeth to heaven.
So take your pick.
If his burden is so light, how come the church people say his sacrifice was so great?

because it is made to measure by someone who knows what you are capable of and how much you can cope with (and what you cant cope with too)
the burden of the world is more to do with the survival of the fittest and bully boy managers rising to the top

When you allow Jesus into your life and let Him take care of your sorrows and worries it's all lifted off your shoulders.
Jesus doesn't want us to worry about anything.
