How do I go about finding a child care provider for my 8 month old? I am considering licenced at home people, day-care facilities, and church programs.
I just don't know where to begin.

enannysource.com is a good place to start (and it's free). You can also check out all the local daycare facilities. Just call and make an appointment and they will walk you through everything. Ask around, ask anyone with children the same age or older in your area where they attend.
Please remember that there are prose and cons to each of these situations and you will have to weigh them carefully. Make sure that you are very comfortable with who you leave your child with and don't forget to ask for multiple references.

I live in the state of TX, and on the state website there is a section to look up licensed daycare facilities and home care that are licensed.
They also show you the violations that these facilities have been cited for.

Check out your states gov site. They should have a listing that you can check licenses etc. Don't be affraid to run a id check with your local police department once you narrow down your search. They will be happy to do it for you.

Also the following web sites have great question check lists to ask any potential sitter.

www.baby.com
www.parents.com
www.ivillage.com

the easiest way to find a good home childcare provider, is to go hang out at your neighbourhood park, get to know them there, see how they interact with the kids, how the kids respond to them. Is she sitting on the bench reading the whole time or is she playing? is she relaxed or seem uptight? shouting at the kids? does she look overwhelmed?
