The Puritans had to flee intolerant religious persecution in Britain so that they could practice their own intolerant religious persecution in the New World.

No witches were burned to death in Salem during the infamous witch trials. Most of the executed ones were hanged, and one was "pressed."

No women or men were burnt in Salem Mass. They were hanged or pressed to death. Please, do your homework.
As to why, some of the debate looks at mold growing on rye at the time. A natural LSD. Myself, I think you never have to try to justify people acting hateful. Mob psychology is there just waiting.

I didn't burn anyone!
Why would you make a blatent judgement on an entire sect of people, when the people that did this act were the only ones who should be talked to about it?

I'm reminded of a Mad Magazine one-panel summary. Two Puritan men are standing in the foreground; a woman is being tortured behind them.
Man one: She's a witch. She's been listening to supernatural voices!
Man two: how do you know?
Man one: God told me!

It was actually occultists that framed Christians to be burned. And the fact that something is done in Christ's name does not mean it is done by Christians.

I wasn't there. I wasn't there when white people who weren't my ancestors owned slaves in the South (my relatives were suffering in the potato famine in Ireland), I wasn't there when the Jews suffered during WWII (before my time), and I wasn't there during the Crusades. Do you think anyone alive today was alive then????

1 - It was the government of Massachusetts that hanged witches - not any one church.
2 - There was evidence, acceptable by the standards of the time (but not our own, of course) that these women were committing serious crimes. We would send someone to prison for causing women to have miscarriages or deformed babies wouldn't we?
