My lab has been acting strange for a while now. She is fully potty trined, wonderful with the kids, an indoor dog, and is almost 10 years old. She is up to date on her shots. I don't want to take her in to vet if it is nothing, but wanted to see if anyone has experienced this or knows of someone's dog who has.
Okay, she has been peeing all over the house lately. (Very Unusual!) She get up from a spot she's been laying in and the spot is soaked!
About 20 minutes ago she came running out of the bedroom and ran into the wall, turned around and ran into another wall...all while stumbling around. AT first I thought she was chasing something, but then I realized there was nothing there. At that point she was very shaky and legs were giving out. (Reminded me of Bambi learning to walk) She came over to me and just laid down. She is still alert when I say her name, but she is still kind of shaky and acting strange. Can anyone help me figure out what this might be? Thanks.

I am not in a position where I can take her to the vet for another 3 hours or so.

My dog started doing something similiar to the shaking last friday.
It turned out it was a seizure. It was very scary to witness. I called the vet and they told me that sometimes dogs have seizures and that it could just happen once and never again. She was also shaky and had that same problem you had. My dog was also acting strange for a while after but she slowlycame back to normal and now seems fine.
I am not sure exactly what it is, but I think that if the dog had this happen two or more times in 24 hours or if she is still wierd more than 10 minutes you should take her to a vet.
This was the advice an emergency animal hospital gave to me.
Best of luck to you and your dog.

The inappropriate elimination may be a bladder leakage caused by infection. She needs a urinalysis to test for bacteria and stones. If there is nothing on the tests, it may be a matter of age, although ten is relatively young.
Dogs can become senile to a certain degree in their old age. They can also have strokes which are usually referred to as Old Dog Vestibular disease, since it affects the inner ear, either from tissue degeneration, infection or a neurological event like a stroke.
While your dog exhibits some symptoms of vestibular, I would not say that is what is the matter with her. Take her to the vet and have a thorough examination. She might just have had a startling dream and and is shaky on old legs, but the urination problem needs looking into.

If my dog acted like this I would think something is terribly wrong with her so before taking the time to get an answer from people that are only guessing I would be calling a VET any Vet and be asking them for answers. If this was your mother what would you do?

Instead of wasting your time typing a question regarding this on here, you should've been on your way to the Vet. Don't have a ride? Call someone. You've got an appointment? Cancel it. Your working? Stop. There is almost NO excuse for why you haven't taken that dog to a dr. Some Vets. might even come to your home if you just call them and explain. At least do that!!! Or call your local humane society or something. But for heaven's sake - do SOMETHING!

Well it's definitely not 'nothing'. Having a dog is like having a kid, would you take you child to the hospital if they were doing that? You should go now before it gets more serious. You don't want to have to go to an emergency vet tonight, everything will cost you double. I hope every thing's OK, just get the poor thing to the vet.

House soiling can be a sign of serious illness. You have the added symptoms of her being shaky and walking into things. I would take the dog to the vet immediately. They can help you figure out whats wrong with the dog.

First if the dog is acting out of the norm you should take it to a vet. Sounds like there is diffinetly something wrong. there is a condition dogs get that will make them wobble it's caused by getting a bump on the head and it will make them walk off balance it's called head tilt and they need medicated. did your dog hit it's head? take it to the vets. Good luck

Yes, it could very well be a stroke. My mothers dog had a stroke and had similar symptoms and also started circling around everything. She couldn't turn one way like when humans have a stroke and can not move one side of their bodies. I would take her to the vet.

How very sad. Your dog is having neuorlogical problems and it's probably age-related. It's like dementia in humans. She may not have a whole lot longer to live. You should take her to the vet immediately, as you probably already know.
