When I got my third tattoo - it changed how I feel about my body. While I still want to lose weight and be healthy, it has helped me accept how mama made me...and feel better about myself. I no longer feel like the big body guard when out with my girl friends. It helps me feel more attractive than ever before in my life.
How about you - positive or negative stories...your tattoos affect on your inner self.

I should mention that I have given birth to 3 children, and weigh about 40 lbs more than when I was first married, yet I feel more attractive, more womanly than I did at 19 when I got married...I am 30 now. My body is not the young athletic body it once was, but somehow I feel more attractive.

Well, about the whole job thing, it depends where you get the tattoo. If it's covered up, then it doesn't really matter. I like getting tattoos. I'm not covered head to toe, but I only get tattoos of things that really mean A LOT to me. Some people get just random tattoos--once I saw a girl with a BARCODE on her neck!!! What's the reason for that?? But if it's something that really means a lot to you, then go for it. For instance, I'm Irish, so I have a shamrock on my leg. It may seem cheesy to some people, but I love being Irish, so it does mean alot to me. I'm also REALLY big into Ancient Egypt, so I have a tattoo on my inner arm of an Egyptian symbol, The Eye of Horus. The bad thing about tattoos though, is that they can get infected BIG TIME or you could get a disease. In that case, you just have to make sure that when you go to a tattoo place, check to see if each person gets their own needle and their own ink. They should also have a sterilizing machine. Also, a GOOD tattoo place won't let you get a tattoo unless you're 18 or older. If you're younger, then you need parent consent. Good luck!!!!!

Negative effects: I am a very bad perfectionist, so when I got it last week I was upset beause the lettering is off and it wasn't perfect like I imagined. So then I got all upset thinking about how everyone was going to see the imperfection in my wedding dress one day and how it would look bad for the rest of my life and their was nothing I could do about it.
Then I started showing it off and everyone loves it so I went back to feeling sexy, to me tattoos have always been very intriguing and attractive. When I notice someone has a good tattoo I am more attracted to them immediatlly. I never knew that it would make me feel a little more sexy but that's where I'm at with it now.

Mine had a positive effect but not necessarily linked to self esteem and such. I had and still have a needle phobia (traumatic childhood event) but I was "brave" enough to actually get a tattoo - which to this day still amazes me...but I've found that the subject of needles doesn't send shivers the way that it used to? I'm also getting an addition on Friday which is another ???. But it's happening. So I guess that would be my pro re tattoos affecting the inner self?
I also think that I can speak for everyone when I say Congrats to Rider...he now feels sexy...congrats! haha

I have had a good amount of confidence for a while so that really didn't change, though I have become much more carefree about certain things and live my life much more day to day. I have made a lot of new friends as well.
I just am who I am, take it or leave it. And if people are judgemental over something like a tattoo it says A LOT about them and who they are and I quickly learned who were my friends and enemies. I found that the best people on this planet are ones who just see me as a human, not a freak show monster.

Mine is an expression as an artist & sometimes makes me feel kinda sexy. It's just a rose (for my name because i love it) on my shoulderblade & only shows when I'm wearing tops that show it....but still. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it & only one negative. That negative was from my dad though....i got an hour long lecture on being "barbaric" & defacing my body that was created by god blah blah blah. LOL! I was 19 at the time so he had no say in it. I got it because I wanted it & yes I do enjoy the attention I get sometimes cause attention isn't something I get too often =oÞ
I actually plan on getting more (small ones) but they're all going to have meanings.

I've found that I tend to think more clearly when I get tattooed...I can clear out the clutter and focus on the things I need to.
There's a reson that many tribal cultures use tattooing and piercing in their ceremonies...allowing yourself to deal with physical pain is mentally strengthening (neither of which hurts THAT bad, but the effect is the same).

Yeah I feel the same way. I've always hated every single part of my body. I got a tattoo and to me its like "finally, I have something on my body that I can be proud of" Thats why I dont understand why people are so negative against people with tattoos. If it makes us happy, and makes us feel good about that part of our body, why is that such a bad thing?

Well, I'm a guy, but I can relate because I have 4 tattoos now, but I want to get sleeved on my arms because I have alot of damage from sun and welding on my forearms and find I am rather conscientious about it. I typically don't care what people think unless its someone I like or care about.

i'm not sure that my tattoos have revealed anything about my inner self but more that they have made other people realize that just because someone doesn't "look like" the tattoo type doesn't mean they can't have them. so maybe i have atleast opened some people's eyes to the fact that there is nothing wrong with having tattoos. the people who know me know i am a good person so it has hopefully shown them that tattoos don't make the person.

i actually just gave birth to my 3 child 6 weeks ago.so i feel ya.as far as the tattoos and their effct on me well, they really didnt change me in any way.the people around me however were the ones to change!!either i had people running up to me saying they loved my art or those people that couldnt look you in the eye when they talked because they were to busy lookin at my tats with disgust.well i guess they have changed me in a way.i feel guarded more than before.like theres certain people id rather not let see my tats so i hide them.not cause im embarrassed but because i want them to get to know me first before they make an impression of me
