The body is down to a science right? If you eat around 2,000 calories a day that should be enough for the average person to get by. So fat people must eat more than 2,000 calories a day and probably foods high in fat. I am not talking about 10-20 lbs overweight I mean obese. Am I the only one who thinks that fat people are actually lazy, is there a metabolism out there that is that slow? I mean if you eat the proper amount of food and somewhat healthy mixed in with exercise then you shouldnt be fat right? So if you cant respect to eat healthy or exercise a couple times a week then you are lazy.

If a person follows a healthy diet and exercise are you telling me they will be fat because of their metabolism? I think thats BS, but I am not a dietician (sp)

I think alot of fat people have had poor diet and exercise habits to begin with and expect to workout for a week and see immediate results. This obviously wont happen you need to be patient and keep working, instead of claiming you have a "slow metabolism" and give up. I guess its all luck that our poor eating habits in America have increased while our % of fat people have too? You have got to be kidding me yes I believe there is some medical excpetions but in general alot of people need to wake up and stop feeling sorry for themselves and their "slow metabolisms"

I think that it comes down to a lack of proper health education and, yes, some part laziness.

The amount of people with a medically "slow" metabolism due to hormones is very small. Yet, I'm sure if you asked many overweight people (especially ones who have been overweight most of their life), they would tell you that this was the reason. I have struggled with weight my whole life and always attributed it to my "slow" metabolism. I recently had my metabolism tested professionally and found out that I actually burn about 20% more calories than the average person (granted this is after I've been working out for a few months and put on quite a bit of muscle).

The biggest problem in my opinion is eating out. Many people think that fast food is the only culprit and that eating at a restaurant is not as bad for you. However, if you look it up (e.g. on www.calorieking.com) you will find that many dishes at popular restaurants are even worse than eating fast food.

For example, a typical double burger with fries meal will run you about 1500-2000 calories depending on where you get it. Horrible, yes. But a serving of Beef and Broccoli from PF Changs will set you back almost the same amount.

Bottom line is that people are taking in way more calories than they realize and then compound the problem by not being active at all. They don't exercise, gain weight, and then compound the problem even further by sitting around all day and not getting outside or moving around to do activities that people don't consider "exercise" but burn calories nonetheless.

Being extremely obese doesn't just come from someone having a slow metabolism. There are clinical diseases that cause obesity. For most this is not the issue, as adults working at a stationary job where you are sitting in a cubical snaking all day doesn't help very much. Along with the stationary job comes the unhealthy eating with proper exercise. This is why people who work in a stationary sitting job are told to exercise more.

Being fat doesn't mean that they are lazy... If you take the the time to do some research you will find that many people that are obese can't loose the weight because their metabolism does not burn calories as fast as others. I am sorry that you feel that just because many people are obese they are lazy. Many people do al ot of exercise and work really hard to loose their weght, but unfortunately everybody looses weight at a different pace. Every body is different.

statistically there has to some people that are overweight from being lazy. many people are the result of their upbringing as athletic parents typically have athletic children and vice versa with overweight parents. and we all know that health and exercise is not really stressed in the US school systems, just look at the garbage that is served in the public school. I graduated HS in '86 and from what I can remember in grade school and later that the majority of the food served in school was pretty much inedible. and many people wonder why kids drink soda and chips for lunch vs. a nasty sloppy joe with mystery meat, that's a no brainer.

until our society as whole changes this will only get worst, and our society isn't going to change. this is why it's up to the "individual" to learn how to keep oneself healthy. there is a lot of science behind health and fitness but there is also a lot of common sense involved. there are some dieting techniques that will apply to everyone and some only to certain groups.

however there is one thing that is certain and indisputable and that is that the human body is not designed to be completely inactive and to survive of calories and nutrients that are derived completely from processed foods.

I know an obese person who isn't lazy at all. Their metabolism is just really low. They eat health, stay active, but they have a medical condition that keeps their metabolism low. If they weren't active I'm sure they'd be a lot bigger right now than they are.

No, that is not true, and i hate it when people make those generalizations. We all have different body types. Metabolism also must be taken into account, how fast your body processes foods. Having alot of muscle mass also burns alot of calories. Someone ould eat 5,000 cals a day and be perfectly fine depending on their activity level.

People that are severely obese have a lot of other problems too but being lazy definitely doesn't help the situation. Lot's of obese people can lose the weight. Jerod from Subway did.

Fat isn't being lazy. It is just the way your body metabolizes food..

No you are not lazy. Some people do not stop all day, hardly eat, and are still overweight. It is your metabolism.
