I am a big fan of sushi and I was wondering how much it costs to buy the sea urchin, eel, octopus etc. I know that I will have to go to a speacial seafood store for this, and I was wondering what I might expect to pay for the fish and other meat?

It is just that I am tired of spending $20.00 to have my fill at lunch and thought that it might be cheeper to make it myself.

Unless I knew where you lived - I really couldn't tell you exact prices - $20 is actually a good deal, because I know that tuna steaks cost me about $11.99 a lb at albertsons, and as for the rest of the ingredients, they go bad quickly and you've got to keep it fresh for sushi. Some of it would be cheaper though - like the crab meat and the actual stuff to make sushi. You should ask the sushi place where they get their seafood and go from there.

It costs less to buy the food than what you pay at the resturant. But it costs them much less than it would cost you.

Whether you can buy it and do it yourself depends how couragous you are, as preparing and eating raw meat can be dangerous.
And unless you are killing the creature yourself it will be you trusting your source that the food is fresh. I wouldn't use any fish in sushi from your local grocer for instance.

Personally, I would stick with the resturant. They have access to a larger variety and skilled chefs, thats what you are paying them for.
