You can't. Cats shed naturally in spring. You probably want to brush it more often, but if your cat didn't shed I would worry.
Now if your cat is actually going bald, losing hair enough to leave bare patches, you should take it to a vet.

take it to the vet and find out what causing all the hairs to fall out...at spring and summer cats and dogs start to shed their winter coats; so they can be cooler for the nicer weather..get a cat brush and start to brush her and that will keep down on hairballs and keep kitty more healthy

if shedding then just brush often ( then you choose when the hair is shed )
if not then use a medicated shampoo - coat conditioner - food supplements ( all out there at the pet store ) ( shampoo only if the cat will allow it of course )

It shouldn't be losing hair, that could be a sign of illness. Have him checked out.
